My 07 Shelby GT was in an accident when going around a corner and lost control. Hit the median, went over, hit a van and then came to rest on the median. Ugh! I took it to the body shop where I bought the car and the are stating 3k to fix it. They already are balking when I said that I want all new parts from shelby - I don't care if I have to pitch extra $ to fix with orginal parts, and no bondo. My confusion is: 1. The first dealership adjuster said, the fender can be repaired but the hood will need to be replaced. The new adjuster said just the opposite. 2. They said somthing about striping that comes in a big roll (I can see them cutting the stripes with a scissor) 3. It doesn't matter what parts are used if the car is repaired by them 4. they said that they won't use used parts, but the first item is a reconditioned GT front bumper - but I have a Shelby? I'm not a body man and certianly not an insurance adjuster, but when I told the dealership collision adjuster that I wanted a quote with new parts and from Carroll Shelby Performance Parts, regardless of cost, he said "well, I know where this is going" Any body repair guru's out there that can help guide me? Many thanks!
The answer is really simple! On a new car, parts should always be replaced against new parts! When you feel you are not unterstood then go to the next garage you will regret it! Besides we are not talking just about a car that only cost 10k new. Help me with this: What is a median? Thanks Jerry
A median is a buffer space between opposing traffic in a divided highway. It can be a shallow ditch, painted, or a raised barrier. I am betting it is the latter style that caused him damage. Only the hood scoop, stripes, and grill are unique Shelby items. The rest of the bodywork is the same as a Mustang GT/CS. robin
You are in a frustrating position;you didn't mention your insurance company but it sound like the crap i got over my 07 F350 that got hit by another party;I wanted new parts;not reconditioned or LKQ(like kind quality)the truck had 3700 miles;it was explained to me that its a 07,used 1 year old,I went to my insurance company and although much more polite told basically the same thing.I told the body shop to figure all new parts and I'd pay the difference between the other companys estimate and actual cost; The body shop was thrilled to get the job;and the extra bucks i paid let me keep my blood pressure in check, alot, not all,but alot of guys in the car bussiness don't give a rip about your car;its tin and tires to them, shelby gt or base 6 cyl mustang pays the same. They may percieve your concern and insistance on specific things as a problem in the making and just don't want to mess with it. Not a solution but i feel your pain. Steele
Everyone, Sorry to drop off from the forum for awhile! But after many rough calls between the insurance company and the repair shop, I picked up my shelby today. Thanks to everyone for your words of caution, wisdom and guidance. I have to write that it pays to be a "bast*&%" to get the job done correctly. My lesson was don't mess with the little guy when having an issue, go right to the management and kick ankles until they do it right. It worked - they did a fabulous job on repairing the car! All parts were painted off the car (fender, hood and front bumper). Stripes were ordered from Shelby and the installation looks great. The only problem was that they didn't align the headlight. Thanks again to everyone for the help!
