    G'day Y'all,

Can anyone help with the original camshaft specification for a Shelby 428 cobrajet?

    Thanks

Gota as the question , are you looking to replace the cam with the same part number , or is this a reference to upgrade? If rebuilding an engine I would replace with something a little more agressive , check out some of the threads on CC, and see what some are using.

    Hi Tout,

Had my original CJ428 rebuilt recently with strengthened and balanced engine with stiffened valve springs, moly pushrods, larger unleaded valves, etc, has 10.5:1 compression and is fitted with 2400rpm stall converter and 3.5:1 locker.
Cam spec is Lobe Spread 112deg, duration at .050" camlift inlet 214 and exhaust 224, valve lift .512' inlet and .538' exhaust.
I find this cam soft on torque off the line and comes into play at higher revs, flat out breaking rubber. I was after a cam with low end torque and more grunt over all rev ranges. I was wondering what was a good cam and what was the original cam spec as Shelby seemed harder before the engine work.

You mentioned everything but your induction system, you need to feed the improvements you made, air in, air out, plus you droped the comp ratio I believe.

    Tout,

The compression ratio is a bit of a guess, has been bored to 40 thou over with high comp pistons.

I have a Holley Holley 770 avenger with factory ramair system and Mallory electonic distributor. Exhaust is standard Shelby manifolds with straight through exhaust, includes balance pipe. I dont use the original crossover muffler and tailpipes through the bumper.
