They pop up on Ebay from time to time. Haven't really paid allot of attention for what they are bringing. Make sure you get the right ones (flat rims) for the 66

Thanks Jeff..we have original 10 spokes on our car but we want what was original on the car..hence the need for them...do you by chance have any pics of what original ones will look like ..did they have any part number stamps or numbers on them? I am assuming that they were 14 inch rims?

Is 1902 a Hertz car ? Hertz cars normally had the chrome magnums while the remaining cars received painted.

I have all five orginal wheels off my car, (6S1431). They need to be redone, but have not been real succesful in finding information on price and time. Bottom line, it seems that they can be rechromed, but it takes a long time and is somewhat expensive. I have mine stored in a shed to protect them from further damge while the car is being restored. I'll try and take a picture later today. Note: The orginal spare tire was still in the trunk when I got the car in 1971, I finally took it off and threw it away becasue it was so dry rotted that it would not hold air. It was a Goodyear Speedway E70-14 with a Red Line. Don't know if it had ever been replaced, but the guy I purchased the car from, got it from Ford in 1967 when Hertz sold them and he says he never changed it. He put Firestone E70 Wide Ovals on the car in 1970, I bought several sets over the years to replace them, I seemed to get about 30,000 miles on a set. Car has 216,000 mile on it now

Ours is a non-Hertz car...sapphire blue with dealer installed stripes. It came with the magnum 500s per Howard. So I guess ours would need the non chromed ones from what you are saying..I took a look on eBay and man so many different car makes used these type of rims also...AMC etc etc..Is there a sure way to tell a correct 66 rim from Shelby versus another 66 magnum from another maker ? The hunt is on..I know what you mean about the cost of chroming..cost us 150 just to triple plate our lid for our air cleaner..you know though...you can get some real good old school chrome down in TJ for cheap.. after months of calling all over California to see who could chrome my aftermarket R model roll bar with no luck because of its size..I went south to TJ and they did an awesome job for 400..however the border patrol drilled inconspicuous holes in it ( I was upset) to make sure I did not have drugs inside the tubes....

    The hunt is on...

...does anyone have the number to paradise wheels..

I just found these 14" magnum 500 rims in a local yard...they told me that they came off of an original 66 mustang four speed car..they have a beauty ring on them so I cant see the rim but the seller is going to send me a pic without the beauty ring...

So once I get that pic can any of you tell me for sure that these are correct? Since I have not heard anyone mention a part number or any form of identifying mark on them to truly show they are original or repos or for another make car..

    Thanks..

Those look like Maverick wheels if they have the 4 1/2 bolt pattern. To me they look more like GM magnums from the photo you posted.

Without the proper offset the wheel will rub the disc brake caliper tube unless you modify the caliper to allow the clearance.

thanks for the post..yes he said they are 14x7 rims and have a 4 1/2 bolt pattern ..what does that mean?..he says they are five lug off a 66 mustang....gads..I tell you I dont know left from right...these all look the same to me except for a shallow dish versus a deep dish...what is the difference how can I tell when I go and look at these rims..there must be some way to tell...

1 are the originals 14x7" rims?
2 don't even know what other question to ask
3 still don't know what other question to ask..

I am going to look at these tonight or tomorrow someone help!

4 1/2 bolt pattern is a ford bolt pattern? I am trying to look at other pics of the chrome ones..looks like the beauty ring on the ones I am looking at is to flat as it sits in the rim and would not fit in a stepped magnum rim like the 66 Shelby?

I may be mistaken but I think the originals are actually considered 14 x 6 and not 14 x 7. The later magnums that were so popular on Mach 1 and Torino were 14 x 7 with different offsets. They will work and clear the disc. They are easy to find original or repo. I have a set of Mopar wheels like Jeff has and I have them on my 66 Convertible but I used spacers to set the wheel out far enough to clear the disc. I could have modified the caliper but thats too much destructive work.

We used to sell these wheels new and we had some like Jeff`s. The Oldsmobile wheels had the reversed offset, but they were 4-3/4 pattern. The term used to describe these wheels is reversed offset, the wheel is basically turned backward from a normal wheel and you have to change them upside down. I have 2 sets of the chrome Hertz wheels like new but I really would hate to sell them. The Shelby Magnums with this offset are rare birds.

Gets a little confusing. Does anyone have any part numbers to help identify the correct Hertz 14x6 Magnum 500?

    Thanks,
    Craig

Here's a couple pics of one of my original 66 gray magnum 500 that's been sitting in the rafters for over 20 years. The numbers on the inside of the rim read "14 X 6 JK" on the top left, and "795 M5 MADE IN USA" followed by a MW symbol with a "2" after it, and another symbol on the top right. I know it's not the typical chrome Hertz wheel, but maybe the numbers are similar. I had them repainted long ago and never finished them since I was kinda bummed about how the shade of gray turned out. Anyone know where to get a good match or a color code of the original gray? I think it was a little darker.

Jimmy, thanks for the offer, but I think I'll hang onto them for now. I don't use them since they won't fit over the Lincoln Mark VII/Mustang SVO rear disc brakes that I'm currently running. Rear brake kit is complete bolt-on without any mods to original parts, not even the parking brake cable. And they clear the over-ride traction bars. The original rear brake parts and metallic shoes that wore out the drums are tucked away for future use if needed, along with the wheels. It's amazing how those 40+ year old brake shoes have plenty of material left on them! Never could find the correct 2.5 x 10 replacement drums though.

IMHO...I think some of the confusion is the lack of the "safety bead" on the outer side of the rim, which I believe a new law in 1967 required. So the 66 wheels had a flat section that went about 2.25" in from the outside of the rim. For me, it's pretty hard to tell the offset of a wheel from a picture, without actually measuring it. On my 14 x 6's, the outside rim width is 7", and the backspacing is about 3 5/8". So they have about an 1/8" positive offset.
