Can anyone make out the #'s on the paper tags in the windows of the cars?

(the pic in question is the one with the fiberglass hoods on and the lone 65 stripe car with the steel wheels)

Anyone know what date that pic was taken?

A quick enlargement on the closest car reveals 5S240? The others are unrecognizable.

I have the entire image collection and will search for the image & date. If I can locate the negative I can scan it at a much higher resolution.

Fun car to learn to drive a stick.
    I learned in Carroll's 1980 Toyota pickup.

I believe that car is 5S290. I have a pretty hi-res image of that pic at home. I can easily recognize about 4-5 numbers, will report back when I get home tonight. Your image could be even better and may be able to resolve even more numbers. Other than 290, the others I can see are in the 270-280's.

Just looked at the hi-res pic at home and can only make out the numbers on 3 cars, not quite as good as I thought:

Bottom row, closest car is 290 then 283 next to it.

2nd row, closest car is 285 (I think).

These cars are all about the numbers. I would think it be important to find photos of
the actual cars and numbers together. This is the first time I've seen that the cars
had numbers on them in the photo, are there any more hi-res pic photos out there like that?
Like to see the number of the lone factory LeMans stripes.

From what I gather from Dave Friedman the GT350 program was not photographed in as much detail as the Cobra and FORD GT programs are. That's not to say that the photos you desire don't exist.

As stated before RD is in the process of digitizing the entire Shelby photographic archive, currently we are scanning images in mid-late 64. Including the development of the mule (5R002), the design and build of the Daytona Coupe, riverside testing of the new FORD GT plus the Carroll Shelby School of High Performance Driving.

As soon as I acquire the images you are referring to I will let you know.

Below is a collection of images i thought interesting. Including homologation images & prototype images. Note the interesting air scoop.

    RacingDivision,
My thanks also for sharing with us all. Whenever I see these types of vintage photos, I love the cars and go over the details with a magnifying glass. It is also interesting to see the folks in the photos in so casual a frame of mind. See the pic on the exhaust system. I wonder if this guy could have imagined he would be in a photo that would be viewed by thousands :) And thank goodness we got rid of the days of skinny black ties and white short sleeve shirts.

Well, it never made it's reserve, so if I keep saving my pennies, maybe I can snatch it up the next time it comes around for sale!

A interesting detail in the third photo is the use of radio suppression wires instead of the SX steel core wires.

Great observation Bob Gaines. Didn't see that till you pointed it out. I guess this car would be equipped with radio?? Little things make big differences, really like old photos.

Yes, the cars that came with radio delete got the SX wires and if the dealer added a radio (which they commonly did) they were supposed to change out the wires as well because of electrical radio interference and add a radio static suppressor at the alternator. The truth of the matter is many did not because of expense or forgetfulness. So a radio car is correct with suppression wires, a radio delete car correct with SX wires and a factory radio delete car with a dealer installed radio could considered correct with ether(although the suppression wires would be most correct) . In judging cars for factory correctness a reasonable concours judge has to take those circumstances into consideration.

It's odd that a late car like this got the rear mounted
battery but it looks correct as the battery tray bolt holes
are covered with original type rubber plugs. Never seen any
    reproductions of these plugs.

If the pix of the trunk is the same car as the window tag, then it is still within range for a trunk battery car. Anyone know what the plugs were originally for, or have any they want to "give" away???

    Mike,

I think Texas Swede was referring to the car in the ebay auction (5S486) which has a trunk mount battery and is listed in the registry as having it from the factory.

Except that the plugs don't appear to be visible in the picture from the auction... unless my eyes are going out on me.
