original shelby paxton made 12/66 with shelby on bonnet and s in front of serial# how to value it for insurance? NOT FOR SALE
Do you mean just the blower? These obviously, don't come up for sale very often, but if you are talking about just the part, you would need to talk to your agent and see how loose parts are handled. I would think you would need some very good pictures and several estimates of the value. I saw one on eBay a while back and the guy was asking something ridiculous. Realistically, it's probably worth two or three times what a period Paxton blower is worth (on a good day). That would be my guess. In order to have great value, you need to find someone that wants the item you have.
thanks, i have it on my 2+2 fastback and want to estimate a total value for insurance. i know what my car is worth, but don't know what the paxton is worth. i could leave it to an appaiser (but would he know?) to decide but would prefer that i had a ballpark value of my own.
Checking on the NADA and Edmunds collector value sites for insurance, it notes that '66 to '68 GT350's with Paxton units can be worth $10 to 20k more than without. That is for Shelby GT350 Mustangs that were offered with the option usually installed be the dealer, though Paxtons could also be purchased by catalog or over the counter. I am not sure of the added value on a non-Shelby. That would have to be on an agreed value with your insurance company. You can check eBay and Hemmings for resale prices on uninstalled original units for a value as well as sale values on classic Mustangs with installed original model Paxtons such as yours.B)
Sounds a little out of whack to me, since there were no factory 1968 302 Paxtons. The setup sells for less than $ 3,000. So if you spend $3k to buy a Paxton, it adds a minimum of $10,000 to the price of your 1968? I would expect it to be worth, oh $3,000, since this one is an "original", maybe $5,000 with documentation.
If it says Shelby on the bonnet instead of Cobra, I believe it's a unit sold sold by Shelby after the name Cobra was sold to Ford. The blower could be one of the, I believe 500 units Shelby bought from the Granatelli brothers. Anyway, I don't think this unit has ever been mounted at the factory on any Shelby. Texas Swede
