Hello guys. I am finishing up my 67 gt 500 and am just trying to verify which a/c compressor and pulley should be used and if they should stay bare or black. I am assuming the york alum compressor is correct of course. Help!! It was hot here in mo. today

Isn't the compressor a special Shelby unit (C7ZX?) and silver?

I did not know. I have seen some that are alum. Thats why i asked. I have pics of some that i thought were correct that had a silver or bare alum. cast housing and black cluthch and pulley. This doesen't make much sense to me considering production principals.I figure the compressor was painted as a unit and was not assembled on the car.

Chris, most of the original C7ZX and C8ZX compressors I have seen have been painted silver over a bare aluminum case and not silver painted over a painted black aluminum case. I have seen only one that was bare aluminum with no silver paint but I was unable to confirm if it had been fooled with. If it was my car I would strip the case to bare aluminum and paint it with some eastwood alumablast. The pully's used in 67 were the painted black ones that had the C7 marked brushes mounted on the top. In 68 the early cars used the same external brush type and then changed to the silver 2 piece clutch and donut clutch magnet with a C8ZX ink stamped on the pulley part of the clutch to go with the C8ZX stamped compressor tag. The C7ZX and C8ZX FOMOCO tags are trademark item's and if someone did happen to make them they would have to be licensed by Ford. If they were not licensed a seller would be foolish to list them on a open forum that is monitered by Ford and Shelby for infrigment items.

Thanks for the info. I am getting close to completion. This car has went really fast. Too bad they all dont go this quick.Should i black out the rear wheelhouses and rear pinch weld? I think i remember someone telling me that 67 san jose cars stayed body color.

Pinch welds (with overspray) put on the car before the front fenders were installed is a must IMHO. The overspray (on areas that were close to the pinch welds often developed allot of runs

The rear wheel well black out is something that was done on maybe 50% of the San Jose cars that year.

    Hope this helps
