Beautiful car-- clearly a record-setting benchmark that deserves attention and helps us all in the value department. That being said, some acquaintances outside of Mesa were expressing some concerns which I initially dismissed. That is, until one of them eventually called my attention to the following eBay auction (4548939008) linked below: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6465&item=4548939008&rd=1 Take a look at the mileage this guy lists-- 213,000! Why would they do this? (Question 1) I thought Stephen purchased it from a "member of the family." Was Stan Pine a member of the Merlino family? (Question 2). And, why did Mr. Becker conveniently leave out the previous owner's name from the Shelby Registry description? (Question 3) Is he doing a little "sanitizing" of the ownership chain? Wow-- didn't know you could remove owners when it didn't support your story! Also, the car in that shop is clearly apart-- looks like a full engine and front end detail to me, much more than the auction implies (Question 4). And if you look closely, the stripes are clearly white, not yellow. How can that be? (Question 5) That can only mean one of two things: Either it's 878's second repaint (wrong color stripes the first refinish) or 878 is currently restored with the wrong color stripes. As most T5's had yellow stripes, I can only conclude it's the second repaint for this car (Question 6). Oops. Now why would a car with only 13,000 claimed original miles have need for TWO paint jobs? (Question 7). And is this even plausible given that this car had OVER 9,000 miles for its last recorded service December of 1969? That means that this flashy neat car has only been driven 111 (yes, one hundred and eleven) miles PER YEAR for the PAST 36 YEARS! How can that possibly be given the number of miles traveled during its first and the original owner was alive through much of this history. (Question 8). Questions 9, 10, and 11 below: For 250k, will Steve be throwing in: 9. A correct radiator cap 10. Trunk cardboard for the taillights (2 pieces) 11. The correct Cobra Jet Ram Air sticker for the air cleaner? And, more importantly, an explanation of questions 1 through 8? Please understand that I am only taking a break from all the "patting ourselves on the back" talk to embark on an exercise in critical thinking about 9F03R480878. Indeed, with such a world record price on claimed provenance and low mileage comes the responsibility to deal with the attention such a sale might bring. Accordingly, it makes sense to vet these issues in a forum such as this for healthy discussion from the most knowledgeable Shelby enthusiasts who comprise this forum. Question #1 for TG, How do you know this is the same car that Stephen sold? I'm not here to bash Stephen or defend him, but for you to come on here and make reference that some one was mis-leading or more appropriate from your statements, lying about a car, I feel you should let us know how you know these facts to be true. First hand! Not from hear say from others. I have had issues with others that frequent this board, my issues being first hand, and all were solved. I would like to know, what is your connection with this car? Hmmmmmmmmm. Starting bid of $100.00. Phony pictures with legitimate serial number? Sounds like a genuine fraud to me. Had the same thing happen to us with our Shelby. They used MY pictures with a phony serial number. There's a bunch of whackos out there. Why is there a discussion over an obvious FAKE ebay auction?? I have run cars up and them the car reappears on an auction a week later. High dollar cars will bring out the fake ads. They just want your 5K deposits. I like the ads that show a 1967 in one pic and a 1968 car in another. OOPSY! The guy making the ad didn't know the difference. An ad can be made up or real. We all just have to be logical about it. Most of us have made lots of jokes about the FAKE ads... This is just another prime example. Anyone email the seller? He might have not even run the ad. Too Little detail is a classic fake. If you were selling a car. You would at least be able to say something about the car. Or at least paste it in from the previous ad! I for one would like to know why everytime a Boss car or Shelby gets sold for a very high price, these boards get lit up like a Christmas tree with all this nitpicking and covert back stabbing. This kind of behavior reminds me of the Corvette community not the Ford group. So what if this car doesnt have the right air cleaner decal or radiator cap. Thats between the buyer and the seller and easily remedied. If the buyer is satisfied with the purchase why does everyone have to get on the sellers case. There are plenty of experts out there like Mike M. that will fly out and inspect a car at a moments notice for a fee which is well worth it in this day of 6 figure Shelbys and Bosses. If this car is indeed that low of miles any amateur could tell that in a second. Buyers, do your homework and due diligence beforehand. Bystanders show some class, if you have a problem with someone deal with it personally rather than putting it out on an open forum like this for all to see. Leave this board for the intended use to help Shelby owners . Ive said enough lets move on! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike McCullough" <mike@worldwidemusclecars.com> To: "T Gatewood Enterprises" <t_gatewood@yahoo.com>; <shelbymustang@carmemories.com> Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2005 10:29 AM Subject: Re: 9F03R480878 Interesting Link and Numerous Questions > Question #1 for TG, > How do you know this is the same car that Stephen sold?
