My brother and I are in the process of replacing the rear reflectors on our 68 Shelby with the proper units for an early 68. My question is are these reflectors recessed into the rear quarter panel or flush mounted as are the later reflectors. Our car presently has the later type. Also are the bezels painted body color or chrome plated. For reference our car had a built date of 12/9/67.

12/9/67 would be the recessed style and they are chrome on Shelby.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was around Feb 15th.

As mentioned it was around Feb 15th. There is no single absolute VIN that it changed so there is some variation around that. The verts tend to be a little later than the fastbacks. Earliest raised relector car I have listed is 2/14 and latest recessed is 2/20. Also this info is specifically for NJ cars and other plants may vary.

    More questions about rear reflectors

I asked a few days ago about the proper rear reflectors on our early 68 Shelby and purchased the correct flush mounted reflectors. Now the question I have is how they were installed. Because they are flush mounted I'm wondering if the rear quarter had a hole punched to except the reflector or was there an indentation stamped in the rear quarter.

The chrome bezel would hold the assembly together. This would fit into the 1/4's indentation and be fastened with two speed nuts from the inside of the 1/4 panel, the tips would be capped off with plastic caps.
