Great weather nice facility although not fully completed for this event. The mood was upbeat because the war between SAAC and Shelby was over. I saw Rick and Amy talking and getting along near the Shelby Automotive display. There were some who weren't up todate on the news of a piece settlement. I compare it to the Japense soldiers on the Pacific islands thinking WWII was still going on. There were some awkward moments at first after hearing some comments from some other SAAC members towards Team Shelby attendees and having to explain to my SAAC friends that it was over and when it happened before they were overheard. A lot of nice road course cars and of course great friends new and old. A large turn out for the concours and also a unrestored original 66 H and a 70 GT500. The show and shine turn out was large and full of interesting Shelby's and other Ford performance cars . Rick Kopec anounced at the evening program that Thunderbolt will be the home for the SAAC convention for the forseeable future. Rick also was continplating sceduling the event in early Aug instead of the traditional July 4th weekend. Ken Eber anounced his retirement and his step daughter was voted in to take his place. I wish her the best. Myself ,Jim Wicks ,Ed Meyer and Randy Sizemore stopped at Bill Collins showroom on Weds on our way to the convention for a tour and then off to some local junk yards for parts hunting all day Thursday. One had several thousand cars many of which were Ford and a few from the 60's to pick over. Several yards were gone because they had crushed and sold all of thier old cars for the metal salvage value of 300.00 a ton. We almost missed the concours judges meeting on Friday because we found a Mustang junkyard with over 200 Mustangs and we spent half the day there scrounging. The convention week went by too quick.
And I thought that was just to make a dramatic entrance. Great to see everyone and I agree with you Bob it just goes by to quick. My only regret was that with all the cars we had Saturday to do it didn't allow time to get out and check out more of the other cars and by Sunday about 1/2 had cleared out. Ideally it would be great if there was a 3 day weekend in August so people could travel on Monday. I know it stinks for midwesterners and left coasters but it was exciting to hear it will stay in NJ for the foreseeable future. Having a 5-6 hour ride pulling a trailer beats the 2500 mile return trip I had from Utah last year.
Great show,[little dusty],but I would think that would be fixed up with more grooming of the grounds as construction continues. Need to find a way to get more parts vendors involved, not may showed up.
