Can any of the judges here tell me what is considered correct for block and heads date codes. By that I mean how many days apart can they be and still be considered correct? I have what I was told was the original block and heads for my 67 GT500 but the codes are a week apart. Is this normal? Thanks, Carl
"Normal" I would say not from my experience. Generally there is more time between the two but a week would not cause me to question the block and head being mated together. Checking my database I found (from original engines) the tightest spacing was two days more common was a month (before or after) Hope this helps
Jeff, I do not have my original engine. I have a 428PI from a later production GT500. Any idea what block and head date codes my car would have had? 67 GT500 #314 built 12/21/1966. (scheduled 12/16/66) Thanks, Rich
Sorry this took a bit. Currently working on a spreadsheet to document the spread a little more concretely. From what I see currently, not allot of samples at this point, it appears that during 67 at San Jose two months between when the block and/or heads were cast and when the car was complete was typical. Hope this helps.
Were the two heads usually close to the same date. On my 69 500 the heads are a month apart. Block 2/69, heads 2/69 and 1/69
