hey guys...we want to restore our LeMans carb for our 66 Shelby..I called Holley and they said that they do restorations on vintage carbs...total rebuild..every bit and piece re-plated..tuned tested and ready to bolt on ...anyone have any experience with Holleys work? Or can anyone recommend or comment on who restored their carb? Price? turn around time? even pics? as always thanks guys... Jimmy
Jim Cowles did my 715 set up - sweet, and all the right plating, stamps, etc. Shelby parts & restoration, Green Bay, WI Mike
I used Holley's Pro Shop once, on a '56 Ford carb. Fantastic work; very precise and fairly priced. Would definitely use them again, if needed.
I used Pony Carbs Inc many years ago to restore my 715 and then shrink wrapped it and put it in a box. Am presently using a 650 double pump Holley on the re-installed original motor which I found in a barn several years ago (another story). At any rate - phone number is: 888-280-4630 and they're in New Mexico. Good luck. B)
Pony restored a 715, 3259 for me some years ago and I was not happy. It performed like crap and when I called them they said they tested it on an engine. I asked, uner load, and they answered no which, to me, means the so called test was useless. Took it apart and the float levels were all wrong as was the power valve (#85). Fixed that and it worked fine. Another thing was that the arm pressing on the accelerator wasn't black like the originals. Joe Bunetic did everything correct on another 3259 so I will sure use him from now on. Texas Swede
Pony Carbs restored two 715 Holleys for me. One '67 & one from the 80's They also have done 3 Autolite 600 HiPo carbs. All were completely satisfactory. Z. Ray
Hi Swede, Thanks for the reply. I only asked Pony to clean up the carb, note anything missing, replace the gaskets, as required and to describe any other parts needed. They did not need to replace the power valves and I have not checked the float levels since the carb was not replaced on the car. Given your experience, I will make sure all is as it should be prior to it ever being re-united with the engine. Canuck
Hey Tex, I have met them and I'll be glad to say hello. I hope this coming season is better for them and the club. Take care
Hey...has any one heard of the http://thecarbshop.com/ Mike says his turnaround is 3 days....He says that he rebuilds them and blue prints them...he does not replate he said...he said he only re-colors...not sure what that means can anyone comment on a recolor and a replate???but he said a re plating is a concourse restoration that he charges 1500 for....versus Holley..holley said that they actually re plate all the cast parts and replate all the steel parts..basically it will be a new carburetor in looks...then they go for a full rebuild and bench test.....the carb shop said they will bench test on an actual engine to simulate different loads ...he said the carb would be better than how it came out of the factory?? Thanks guys.. Can anyone post pics of a carb that has been "recolored" and a comparison shot of one that has been replated?
