Need to remove the air chamber on hood for painting .#1 best way to to remove the rivets that hold it on .#2 I have the strange looking looking rivets to put it back on is there a special tool to use. #3 what is the glue or sealant to used to seal it #4 what color is the chamber I have seen grey and black. Thanks Saltman
1. Very carefully. I use a cutoff wheel to cut the Huck rivet low then drill out the stud. 2. AMK sells the rivets and will rent you the gun to fire them. The gun requires a $750 CC deposit plus a $150m rental fee. 3. Body panel adhesive. Its the color thats tricky. I've mixed red oxide primer with the beige adhesive with good results. 4. Its a low gloss black, maybe a touch of gray in it.
Wow 4of 4 thanks for the fast reply TLEA. now I have work up the courage to do it maybe after a six pack . thanks again saltman
I had a machinest friend of mine make some rivets that passed all of the experts eyes. Then to find max was making them. The next thing that might help is take a piece of your old adhesive to a local masonary company and they can mix you up some adhesive in a caulk tube that looks perfect. I have done it twice on the last 2 krs. The other thing is if you know someone at a local body shop see if you can borrow what is called there big daddy rivet gun. This is alot cheaper.
Thanks dragpac for info on adhesive . Got the rivets from AMK but never heard the term huck rivets before until TLEA mentioned it .So of course I googled it & they are used a lot in the aircraft industries. So I have friend of a friend who is a airline mechanic & maybe he can help. Thanks for the help & info Saltman
