Hi, I'm newto the forum and would like a little help with identification on a toploader I have. The tag is RUG-N1/main case is C8AR-7006-D W-1 date G31 and tailshaft is C4ZR-7A040-A date F16. Tag indicates a 67 trans but it has a 68 case?? Would this be correct for a 67 or 68 application? Seems I read somewhere that some late 67 toploaders used C8 cases near changeover. Any input appreciated, Thanks
Thanks Jim, helps decode the tag information. So do you go by the tag info which says it's a 67 close ratio trans or do you go by the case info indicating a 68 date more likely used in a 68 Mustang? Thanks
Always the tag - as long as its the original one. The cases are generic to the application somewhat. Another hint is the VIN that should be stamped on the case or tailshaft housing depending on what year it came out of
Jeff is correct. The tag is normally riveted to the case. The tailshaft housing can be unbolted and a new of diffrent one installed. Stick to the tag info. Jim #3000
