68 KR Doors on my 67 Fastback...Cool

You may want to get a hold of the owner of the "special yellow" KR and see if he would be interested in his original door tag [thats if the car is still around]? It would be the right thing to do. JMO

 

Did you contact the good folks at SAAC or did you go off of the '97 registry?

 

I am sure Coralsnake would be interested in this find. He has a special interest in special paint 68 Shelby's.

 

My best guess was if the doors were seperated from the car, the car was in pretty bad shape. I suspect it won't be coming back soon.

This one is missing, I have been keeping tabs on special paint 1968 Shelbys for 15 plus years.

This begs the question, how many special paint cars have bought the farm? Do we have any idea?

I can account for about 80% of the 159 special paint cars. I suspect the "bought the farm" rate is around 10-15%.

 

So that leaves about 31 before you take the 10-15%. So about 15 are left unaccounted for?

I wonder how many are overseas? My cars twin 67GT500 Shelby #2565 (very next ford vin from mine) went to Finland for good money recently. White Auto/AC car, however it was converted to 4 speed.

 

I counted twenty cars I would really like to see of the 159. These cars have every little information and no histories.

There are other cars that have some paperwork floating around and have not turned up yet.

There are also a few cars that have some bits and pieces floating around (like the one above)

So, we would have to more clearly define what what is accounted for and what is not.

If you mean specifically have current owners and are "authentic" the numbers of the missing would be higher. To me a car is accounted for if there is an owner and/or sufficent paperwork to prove it is a specific special paint car.

If I had information on 6 specific cars, I could put the special paint breakdowns to rest. If I had all 20, there would be no loop holes.

As long as one non-yellow special paint car is missing, there is the possiblity it could be any of the six colors.

I looked and there is only one GT350 fastback unaccounted for....I don't recall the number from memory. But, if it turned up, I could say it is or is not the missing car.
I dont want to assume there are only 15 non yellow special paint cars, just because the paperwork says there is. Unfortunately, I have seen several discrepancies in the factory papers regarding special painted cars.

 

You know whats nuts, is those cars are still sitting in barns here, overseas, and elsewhere waiting to be found. Some are goners, some are stolen, some are taxi cabs in Jamaica and Mexico.

That car has a southwest desert history. The chassis is probably sitting down there in a junkyard. You should follow up to see where those doors came from....

 

At least you said MISTER this time. I did guess it in two guesses.
