HELLO THERE IM NEW TO THE SITE , I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING 69-70 VIN # DO THE SHELBY VIN'S RUN SUCCESIVE { IN A BLOCK OF PRODUCTION} OR ARE THEY SCATTERED ? ALSO IS THERE PUBLISHED VIN #'S SOMEWHERE THAT ARE FOR 69 - 70 SHELBY PRODUCTION ? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT AS IM TRYING TO IDENTIFY ( AUTHENTICATE ) A SHELBY ENG & TRANS I HAVE THANKS mc2000
Well, yes and no. The engine/trans vin you'll find is the Ford Vin. But, on the early (65, 66, 67) Shelbys, Shelby American put thier own Vin on the car, and it is different from the Ford Vin. I'm not sure about the 68-69-70's, but I thought it was not the same either. AND there is the SAAC registry, but, it contains all the Shelby vins, and, SAAC will NOT make public the corresponding Ford vin. Cuts down on fakes that way. Don't even bother asking them, the answer is no.
SAAC will verify, send them the Ford VIN and Shelby #, they'll give you a simple yes or no on if it's correct, so you'll know. The SAAC registry is very helpful, at a car show yesterday, checked out a very non standard GT350H displaying a Shelby vin tag, some doctored up window sticker, and looking up the number the car in the book is not even close as to what this joker is driving. I really hate seeing someone using someone's VIN. This car had a 347, GT exhaust, no monte carlo bar, weird console amongst numerous oddball things on the car. Never did see an owner to ask what the deal was....
Look for number 48 in the 6th and 7th position in the vin number on the dash. The number 48 designates the car as a Shelby. The numbers following are the consecutive sequence numbers of the cars. Hope this helps.
