I thought this was interesting and would share. My latest project is a 68 gt500kr that had been in a barn for over 30 years. Here is the interesting part. During teardown of drip rail mldgs. I found how ford blackedout the pilar where the drip rail meets and the weatherstrip channel meet. This is the first time i had seen that. I might need to fix some of my done cars. Do the judges look for that?
Re: 68 shelby pillar blackout I have not seen that before, would be interesting if you could post a picture. I wouldn't make the assumption that because one car has this, all cars do (or should).
On the 65/66 cars the black out is most conspicuous where the pillars meet the dash and in the area of the speaker and defroster vents in the dash . It is most evident when it is not applied in those areas and body color is seen instead of black. Everything that is not as it was on the assemblyline is supposed to be evaluated. There is so much to go over when judging a car in a short allotted time it would be quite easy to over look those details. The nicer the car is the easier it is to pick up on details like that because they stand out more.Bob
Its typical to see the blacked out speaker/defroster area and the A pillars on all years. If not (especially brightly colored cars) the body or interior colors really jump out at a viewer from around the dash pad or pillar covers (depending on year) There are other areas (like the area on the B pillar behind the louvers - on the body) that were "blacked out " also I've never seen the area (if I understand your description) you mentioned done. But as Peter mentioned it would be mice to see a picture so that we can be sure we're all talking about the same area
68 kr pillar blackout Hey, The forum is back!! Thought i would post a couple of pics of what some wanted to see of a 68 gt500kr during teardown. I discovered blackout along the pillar which i have not seen before.
Re: 68 kr pillar blackout Thanks for sending these earlier and now posting them for everyone. As mentioned I had not seen this done before on a 68 Shelby Have seen a couple of other odd black outs on NJ cars that have only appeared (from the ones I've seen) on a single car each What part of the year was the car assemblied? Might give is an idea or at least search during that period to see if others had it for at least a little while
