I agree 100%. A KR with such low miles deserves to be left alone. It sounds like you have a true time capsule. Post some pictures for all of us to see. I personally love seeing original unrestored cars in ther historical state of life. A car is original only ONCE in its life. If it can stay that way then by all means Keep it that way.

I'm currently giving my 67 Shelby #3000 a total new make over. I wish I didn't have to go this way but the car was past being a time capsule.

There are fewer and fewer examples of unrestored original cars out there. If your is as nice as it sounds to be keep that genuine A.O. Smith Shelby the way it was built in 68...KEEP IT REAL.

Wow, that was a lot of mileage on an old thread....regardless, good advice all around.

I would agree with al8apex who said in not so many words, don't restore the car. Not all cars should be restored. A 17,000 mile original probably should stay as is....

I would disagree with this statement:

" ANYBODY can restore even a rusty pile into a show winning item"

Not true. There have only been a dozen 1968 Shelbys restored to SAAC Gold standards in the last 10 years. I think that is enough evidence, not anyone can build a car correctly.
