2007 Shelby GT - HOOD PINS ???

The hood is aluminum, not steel. Shelby does not apply any treatment to the bare metal.

Hood pins seem to be an issue on the 2007 model. There is an improved design used on the 2008 model. I believe they are available through the Shelby Performance Parts catalog.

Yea, these holes are also razor sharp among other things I don't care for. They should have eliminated the remote hood release on this car as well. Imagine the stress and damage occured by popping the hood while the pins were still holding the hood down.

 

I think the lettering on those newer pins only come in blue.

When we finished the build on our car we chose to not use the standard pins being used.... we went with a company called AeroCatch.... they were actually referred to us by some of the guys at Ford Racing.... We dod remove the factory hood release since these are locking.....

On the '07 hood pins, make sure the rings are in the proper holes on the pin. This will help the pin to "bind" and stay put much better. When I first got mine the ring was not in the proper hole and did not stay in place nearly as well as when I changed it. I don't think there is any need to spend more money on the "08 pins, unless you just like the looks.

I boogered up the hood pins on a 2007 Shelby GT sitting in the showroom! I pulled the hood release without removing the pins. Whoops! They still sold the car for MSRP +++ but I noticed that it was displayed with the hood up.

Sometimes I just do dumb things I guess.

 

They replaced my hood pins too...at no charge.. They said they appeared to have not been installed properly, causing the damage while driving.

 

If you are looking for better pins, do install the '08 version. They are available in aluminum or black. Lot better looking.

 

My hood pin cables are rusty looking, and the dealer also said they are installed incorrectly. I've been waiting for the hood scoop/stripe issue to resolve before having the hood pin issue corrected.

Bye the way, what is the latest on the scoop warping, and stripes bunching around scoop edges. I have been trying searches for the thread for an hour wihtout finding anything on it at all!

The new hood scoop is finished. The best way to handle it is go to your dealer and file a warranty claim. They'll take pictures and send them to Ford Warranty. You can also contact Ford Warranty at 1-800-367-3788. They are very easy to deal with. They will ask you to send an e-mail to fwrnty@ford.com and include:
vin #
a discription of the problem
pictures of the scoop and stripes
your dealers name and your contact at the dealer (service writer)
By contacting Ford Warranty yourself you'll expedite the whole process. Good luck

The hood pins on my 08 Shelby GT were not binding as well on day 1. I just needed to bend the ring a little so the clip ring end was placed in the proper hole. If the clip ring is not bent properly or out of the hole, there will be no tension on the pin and it will fall out and dangle in the breeze. When the hood pins are working properly, the pin should slide through the post very easy. It's not the hood pushing up against the pin that keeps it in place. It's the tension keeping the clip ring flipped over that secures it. Good point made above about removing the hood pins before you release the hood latch.

 

I realize this is an old thread, but I had to speak up as this statement is completely wrong. The torsion clip's 'ring' is only to prevent it from coming out of the hole due to any excessive vibration. Any spring tension from the 'ring' is only a design of how it fits into each side of the pin, and IS NOT a latching or hood securing feature- it also belongs on top of the pin.

The clips (when properly installed) should fit through the holes with a slight amount of drag/force. It isn't much, but there should always be a slight amount of force on the underside of the clip/pin. This is true for any functional hood pin setup, which is what the SGT uses.

Heh, I have a friend of mine trying very hard to get me to upgrade to the 2008 billet hood pins. And, after seeing them at Fabulous Fords- I'm considering it. Of course, I don't think we are ever done modifying our cars.
