This is the Vin# . Aparently the car was given to the Boss of AC. for supplying the bodies. I have seen this car , and had a run in it . My cheeks are just coming back to where they should be . Could it be a mistake and be 601 or is this impossible. John
Oddball serial numbers Apparently not all Cobras had CSX2000 or CSX3000chassis designations. There were also such Cobras built as: A-98 HEM-6 MA-200 EFX-501 TO 508 CSX5001 CSX5002 I don't know if the new SAAC Register has these cars fully accounted for but I think if they were inded built in the original Cobra era by A.C. Cars Ltd., they might be "grandfathered in" by now. (though you have to wonder if some of these cars never saw the LA Shelby plant, are they still Cobras?) I haven't checked in my pre-SAAC register to see if they are llisted there as that is organized by CSX2000 and 3000 numbers. Anyway, suffice to say that whenever you are dealing with a small independent company, they can number things anyway they damn please..and apparently A.C. Cars Ltd. did just that....not to mention the practice back in the Sixties of some teams of ordering an extra chassis if you were racing so you could rebuild the car without having to wait for the factory to make a replacement chassis.
Only A-98 and HEM-6 are regarded as true Cobras. The following: Ma-200, EFX-501 to 508, CSX5001, CSX5002 and CSX3063 are considered nothing more than chassis of extended length; 96" to 108" built by AC for various customers. None of these chassis were ever intended to be built with Cobra bodies.
