2008 Shelby GT. There are very loud squeaks coming from the front and rear suspension at slow speeds while going over speed bumps. The dealer said it is the bushings in the front and rear sway bars making the noise. They tried lubricating the bushings but they still squeak. The dealer is contacting Shelby for a recommendation. Is there anything else that can be done short of replacing the sway bars? Has anyone else seen this issue? Thanks.
Re: Squeakey Suspension RWM, that's a pretty common complaint with the SGT's. Mine is most noticeable when it's cold and for the first few miles of driving but it does it all the time to some degree. As I understand it, it's the neoprene bushings in the sway bars. Some have fitted zerk fittings to grease them while others just spray the area with silicone with varying degree's of success. Now that I know what it is and that it's normal I don't notice it much anymore. My '92 Taurus SHO used to do the same thing. I think anytime you lower or add a performance (tight) suspension to a car this is the result. Good luck. Oh, by the way, throw it into a curve really hard and you'll really appreciate the firm ride and won't notice the squeaks at all Jim
Re: Squeakey Suspension Yeah that is true. I am extremely happy with the cornering. It is still there after the dealer lubricated it and like you mentioned, more so when it's cold. I understand that altering a vehicle's suspension changes things, but I get the feeling that the parts used are inferior. I could understand if it was a 16 yr old kid modifying his ride, buying his parts from the local auto parts store. This is Shelby we are talking about. I'm willing to live with it but I'm also going to let things take the course and see what the dealer comes back to me with after talking to Shelby. I'll update this post when I hear more. Thanks.
Re: Squeakey Suspension You could stop by your local marina/boat dealer, and pick up a tube of marine grease. Every time I take off a sway bar: when installing it; liberally apply the marine grease to the bushings and don't forget the endlinks. There are some additives in the marine grease ( moisture protectorants? ) that seem to do a better job of lubricating nylon/polyeurathane bushings. Good luck.
Re: Squeakey Suspension RWM, You have the best parts available in your car now...nothing cheap about the neoprene bushings at all...they are far superior to what comes in the car from the Ford factory. If you read your owner's manual carefully, it clearly states that the bushings are prone to squeaks and it is NOT covered under the vehicle warranty. Neoprene bushings simply have less flex than rubber and that is what causes the squeaks. As Pastor Passum said, you will appreciate that when you throw it into a corner and it "sticks" like it is on rails! Enjoy, and just turn the stereo up and you'll never notice the squeaks again! Better yet, just light up the back tires and forget about it! LOL Carl
Re: Squeakey Suspension RWM, I've got an '08 SGT and the rear suspension squeaks just like yours. The test model loaned to Motor Trend Magazine for a test drive seems to have had a similar problem and the Ford Dealer they took it to first told them there was no issue, but when they took the car to Shelby, viola, they found a bad shock. Re: Squeakey Suspension Hey thanks for the link. My squeaks are definitely coming from the anti roll bar bushings and only when the outside temperature is below 45 degrees F. I'll re post if I find a way to fix it.
