I am repainting the rear shocks (Koni's) on my 1966 350. I can see bits of the orginal paint and I know at one time they were some sort of orange, but with the amount of fading and heavy surface rust, I'm not sure what would be the right color to paint them. Any suggestions? Probably just a spray can will do, but does anyone have a type/color they would recomend? Dupont? Krylon? Ace? Highway safety orange stolen off a DOT truck?

The best way is to match the paint on the shock using a less exposed portion of the shock for professional results. If that is not possible then another alternative is to purchase one of the special mixed Koni shock paint in a spray paint cans that a couple of the larger mustang vendors like Virginia Mustang or NPD sell. They are not exact but better then nothing. The paints are thin and don't cover well so I have found it best when using them to lay down a base coat of krylon orange and then going over it with the special Koni orange paint for final coverage. I hope this helps. Bob

I know that Dupli-Color Engine Enamel works very well. it can be found at any parts store. The color is Chevy Orange. The no. is DE 1607. Dupli-Color offers two Chevy orange shades and this one is the red orange shade like the Koni. The other is standard orange.

If you send me a private message with your email address, I will send the PPG formula that was created for my 65 based on the color from original front shocks base plates.

KONI sells tehse kits but they are different from the original ones.
The rubber bushings are smaller (diameter) than the originals.

Complete hardware kit (not exact but pretty nice and complete w/protective covers) for the Shelby KONI shocks is part # 71.50.15.138.0, $11.34 each + shipping. You will need 1 kit per shock. This kit includes: 4 pin rubbers, 4 washers, 4 nuts, and 2 protective covers.

FYI the hardware on the newer Konis rear shocks are a different Metric size then the original and it is a distinctly noticeable larger size nut when compared to the vintage hardware. Except when it is covered with a vintage correct looking cap. Bob
