I've been told the 31 spline axles used on a GT500 were different than other 31 splines, if so, what is the difference?
OK...I've been told that 67 GT 350 cars used standard 67 GT S-Code axles and center sections. But the GT 500 cars used a different axle and center section. Can someone please confirm
I know the centre section are different on a GT500 it was discussed a while back mine has SPEC cast into the carrier. But as for axles I think they are the same??
Magstar, I'm fairly certain the axles used on a GT500 are different as well. The axles used on a GT500 are the same as those used on a 67 427 Fairlane. It one of those parts that was used only one year...1967.
67 gt350 and gt500 both used 31 spline axles . The ones used interchange with both 68 and 69 big blocks Mustang/Shelby. There were 2 designs of SPEC cases I am aware of . When installed on the car both appear physically the same on the outside but the early style has a date cast in and the later has the letters SPEC where the date normally is. Both styles were used on 67 gt350 and gt500. Bob
Bob, Would you know what style case and axles that was used on cars with a Ford build date of late January 67 and a Shelby build date of approximately 4/15/67? Do you have a photo of the axle end with the studs?
I have seen more of the cases marked SPEC after jan 67 but have seen C7ZX marked tags with may 67 build dates on non marked or blank SPEC cases so it looks like they may be scattered throughout. There are some extremly small details between the 67 31 spline axles and the 68-70 31 spline axles. once mounted in the rear end housing and with the drums on you would not be able to tell a difference.
