HELP, I am going crazy here. I am replacing the entire exhaust system on my 70 500 automatic and can't seem to get a definite answer on what is correct for the left intermedite pipe shape. Did the factory use the same left intermediate pipe on both automatic and manual trans 500's? The staggered shocks on the 4-speed cars dictate that the left pipe be shaped differntly. I have talked w/Jim Cowles @Shelbparts and he says they are different w/the auto pipes being symectrical R to L. Conversely, Scott Fuller (who has spent the last year producing what he calls a "perfect" reproduction of the 69 big block exhaust) says that all systems used asymetrical intermediate pipes (same for auto and stick). Before I go spending over $2000 for a system I want to be SURE I am getting it right.
69/70 GT500 Auto and 4 speed intermediate pipes are the same . For sure. Jim C is thinking of 1968 KR and 68 1/2 Cobrajet exhaust that has a different intermediate pipe for 4 speed vs auto car because of the staggered exhaust. Ford re engineered it for 69/70 Shelby so the 4 speed and auto intermediate pipes will fit ether the same. Scotts exhaust system is concours show quality. He is as anal as they come for the small details(a good thing in this case). Bob
