I haven't heard anything about a SAAC convention this year. Will it happen?

Dates are tentative right now (track may still be trying to get paid for last year’s usage) Notice all the hotels haven't sold out so I guess everyone is holding their breath and credit cards.

That could be a problem. :p

I'd hope that the dates and location are quickly confirmed. Everyone else has long ago announced their 2009 schedule.

I find it funny that the track may not have been paid for last year. With the money that is raked in for the open track, that's a joke. I know what it takes to rent a big time track such as Sebring and the money that is charged per session at a SAAC event should pay for this place manyi times over. I'm losing interest in SAAC, yearly dues are up, no more snakebite, no more newsletter, no more dash plaque, it just doesn't seem worth it anymore. Yeah I know, they're "modernizing" and going electronic, but I couldn't even guess the last time I rec'd a Snakebite Magazine. I guess they may be using Liberal Democrat accounting practices!!

    Bill,
I don't know a thing about promoting an event such as this, but I know the big historic tracks are more expensive than the smaller and newer tracks.

In the past, we would rent Roebling Road for $2500/day (week day). I heard that Road Atlanta was charging $50,000 this year for the Walter Mitty weekend.

The big tracks also require a large down payment at the time of signing the contract (usually done in December) and the balance of the rental before the event starts.

    Doc,

As little old McMichael Motorsports in 2006, we rented Sebring for 2days for our customers and Deep South Cobra Club. We had maybe 50 cars and what we almost broke even for a very reasonable price each person paid, which I don't recall. That covered, track rental, skid pad, insurance, safety crews. To be able to do that with that few cars, we ended up shutting down ops on the second day mid afternoon because everyone had too much track time. Not many events will do that for their drivers. I know this is BS with what SAAC charges, especially since the run groups are so loaded with cars, I'd rather drive on I-985 as I get to go faster!! Last time SAAC did Lime Rock, I stopped 3 times on the track each lap due to traffic, some 60 cars in a run group sucked. Concur about RA, we went all the way to Sebring because RA was stupid with what they wanted for track rental, despite us being friendly neighbors. I hope you've got your car tuned, expect to see you up running with the Audi ex-ALMS cars! :lmao:

I find your post interesting since Sebring and Road Atlanta are owned by the same person. ;)

BTW, I don't tune my car anymore. It's always been slow and no additional tuning ever seems to work. :D

I know Sebring and RA are owned by the same people, but the folks on site who run the places are like night and day.... :grrr:

Now they owe money from last year? I don't know guys, I got the newsletter that said Thunderbolt again weekend of Aug 1st, then on the site it says BeaveRun above Pittsburgh the following weekend. I checked their site this morning and it had some driving school there and now this afternoon it has SAAC but only for the 7th and some other thing starting at 4 pm on the 8th? Someone is really flying by the seat of their pants on this one...

I'm out. Nobody seems to be able to make up their minds! Last year, SAAC announced all conventions would be held in NJ for a couple of years. You never hear anything from the "new" SAAC president!

What ever became of the announcement of Eber's daughter or daughter-in-law or whoever taking over? She spoke about it during Saturday nights banquet dinner in NJ last year. SAAC made a big deal out of it!

She was to take Ken Eber's place, but that's old news.

This is a directory of all the key players at SAAC HQ

Here's part of the rest of the story ;)

    "SAAC REORGANIZATION
We are presently engaged in a reorganization of the club, and while the intent is to improve its inner workings, we also hope it doesn’t have much of a major effect on members other than to streamline club administration and, as always, to enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the cars and their association
with them. Nothing remains the same forever, and after 33 years of more or less gradual evolution, we are in the midst of change that is not so gradual but comes out of necessity. We are presently in the process of changing from a regular corporation to a not-for-profit corporation"

A lot of new 'stuff' to read about here; http://www.saac.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

I've been a project manager for 14 years, negotiated and implemented multi-million dollar projects and still do. Currently work for CHE (Catholic Health East) a non-profit consordium of 20 hospitals up and down the east coast, can I offer any assistance to knock this out and get our family together having some fun?

I'm running out of reasons to pay the now $50 so I can log onto a webpage to read everything. I gave up on the conventions a few years ago, and it looks like there is nothing about next year that will cause me to come back and attend them and play on the open track for stupid amounts of money. I guess I'll just go on I-285 around Atlanta where there are less cars than what I drove around Nashville with a few years ago.:noway:
