I heard that all San Jose built cars had an Autolite connector hose connecting the fuel filler pipe to the fuel tank. It had an "Autolite" logo and red stripes. Can any of you verify this? Anyone know what plating was on '66 fuel filler necks? Also, I see a lot of NOS necks on eBay going for a lot of money and they don't have the crease or "turkey neck" look. Are these acceptable for concours? And were there ever NOS necks with the correct crease or did Ford only produce the smooth ones?
Nope- seem tens of thousands of San Jose and never seen one marked with AUTOLITE The filler tube was coated in lead
Thanks Jeff. How about those non-turkey neck NOS fuel filler necks. The ones without the crease. Did any '66 cars come without the crease?
Here are the pics. All of the original '65 and '66 cars that I have seen have the filler neck on the left with the crease half way down the neck. The one on the right are sold on eBay as NOS with Ford label but they are smooth all the way down the neck without a crease.
The one that sold on ebay is a later service replacement. All of the assemblyline gas filler necks and some of the early service replacements had that same crease in the neck. A lot of repro parts are produced based on what the last service part looked like . Over the years the design or look of service parts sometimes change. The design might be better but the appearence is most always different which becomes a problem for us that try and restore the look of the past. Bob
