What is the correct color code for rear leafsprings on a 67 gt500? IF it matters its a auto a/c car. Running down to the wire for birmingham.

When was the car built at Ford?

What are the engineering numbers from the springs? (short leaf behind the rear end)

For a car with AR rear springs in the later part of production my notes show I've seen original cars with a single yellow stripe behind the rear end (on the short leaf)

Stripe would have been applied to only the short leaf with the whole spring assy out of the cars sitting upside down from how it was installed. Brush may have applied a little paint over the edge as it was moved across the leaf.

    Stripe approx 1 1/4" wide

Hope this helps - and thanks for askign rather than just copying some car out of a magazine :(

Chris, I think you are referring to the Shelby build date was in 6/67 . It seems to be too late a Ford build date to be shipped to SA and be stamped with that VIN. The leaf springs were installed on the Ford assembly line and you would need the Ford build date for that .That build date seems to be about a month later then cars with VIN numbers 200 cars or so higher that is way I think you are referring to the Shelby build date instead of Ford build date. Of course the car could have been built way out of sequence . I have been working with some later 67 cars recently and the AR springs I have observed had a orange stripe. I respect my friend Jeff S. observations and just wanted to add my 2 cents because it has me wondering ??????? Bob

Bob nice caught on the date - I got to the spring number and with the late build focused there

The notes are from May 94 at the 30th anniversary show - no digit pictures at that point ;)

    Car was #2134

Have some earlier (#900's) with the single orange. As well, of course the 68's

Jeff ,given the 900 VIN you observed and of course the 68's it seems probable that in between could be orange as well. We can further discuss when we see each other on Thursday. P.S. I will leave a few parts at the swap for you.:laf: Bob
