I found a reference to the Larry Miller Museum at these two related websites --------------------------------------------- http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/05/a-tribute-to-shelby-larry-h-miller-auto-museum/ http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Larry+Miller+Shelby+Collection/ --------------------------------------------------------------- By looking at the pictures in the story, it looks like he had a lot of genuine CSX2000 and CSX3000 Cobras. In an announcement in a forum about an upcoming event at the Shelby Museum I read that some of his cars in addition were at the Shelby Museum in CO and that some cars from that museum are soon scheduled to be going on the auction block. Is there a list of cars by SN and any idea of which auctions they will be at? It seems like this year, with the recession, it may be a tough time to sell big ticket cars but I guess after the Indianpolis auction in May we will see if Cobras retain value even in tough times.
I hate to be a jerk; however you always come up with inane posts. The Cobras of Larry Millers collection were posted on here previously. At this time none of those Cobras or GT350's are consigned to auction. Two cars that belong to Steve Volk; founder of the Shelby American Collection, are consigned to the Mecum auction next weekend. Joe.
A couple of cars from the museum will be up for auction at Mecum in Indy on Friday. It will be live . Check your listings or their website . This auction is going to have more significant Shelby autos then any auction I have seen in the last ten years if ever. It will be interesting to see. I am told that there are at least 4 billionaire bidders waiting to scoop up cars. It will be a chance of a life time for the bidder with the deepest pockets to get the all in one scoop. It will be interesting to see who's money is better. Bob
I think this auction will answer the question if good cars still bring the big dollars in poor car market. Will they RING THE BELL or have a lot of NO sales? Will be interesting to see how this all pans out.
Anybody planning on being there?? I'm planning on Wednesday (couple of hours), Thursday, Friday (all day for sure), and possible on Sunday. Saturday is the Indiana Spring Fling SAAC Shelby Show, don't want to miss that...... Tool
I'll be there Friday. I am meeting Ed Meyer and Jim Wicks and maybe Bill Collins (if he hurries up) to see the auction and then to the Indiana SAAC Spring Fling car show south of indy at Brown county on Saturday. I am looking forward to seeing other SAAC members too. Bob
sorry if the question(s) seem inane... Dear GT-350S: I am sure if I searched harder I would have found it, but there's bound to be some repetition of subject matter on any forum for those who can't find previous references (that's all a function of what you type into the search function). If we were all as expert as you we wouldn't need a forum--we'd know all the answers. It was never clear to me who owned the Shelby American Collection but at least now I know some of the cars were owned by Larry Miller, whose family I heard this weekend at a Cobra meet at Willow Springs has no plans for their immediate sale. I wondered what effect on the classic Cobra market there would be if too many legendary Cobras came onto the market simultaneously but it looks like that won't happen though Indianapolis will set some kind of record. I wonder why the Mecum sale is in Indiana rather than at Monterey in August (where most of the big-time collectors will be) but maybe those selling now figure that the economy could only get worse and they want to cash out now.
PdF of the Cobras at the Mecum sale, 40 pages in all Further research shows the auction company with all the Cobras , Shelby Mustangs and GT40s for sale in Indianapolis (Mecum) has a PdF showing the Cobras for sale. This Pdf is 40 pages long. Didn't have time to study it yet but one of the fun things is a Pete Brock pencil sketch of a Daytona coupe with the "ring airfoil" that Brock never got to put on the car! It's at http://www.mecum.com/pdf/brochures/SC0509_shelby_american.PDF
I didn't see any of Mr. Miller's cars at Mecum this week, but several of the cars from the Shelby American Collection museum in Boulder (Gunbarrel, CO) are there. One, perhaps more, of them are owned by Steve Volk one of the stakeholders in the museum. I hope the new owner will keep them hitched at the stable there.
