Well hello guys I thought i'd join a forum since i was seriously looking into restoring or converting a 67 fastback gt500 in a year or so for myself and might also be helping a friend do so over the summer. I'll be honest i don't have much knowledge about the classic car area, but still that doesn't mean i don't know anything. Right now i'm looking into converting because obviously it's extremely hard to find an original gt500 project car and for the right price. Some of my questions included what are the main differences between these mustangs and the gt500 in terms of engine and body-work. From my understanding the difference between the gt500, 350, and the other fastbacks is that the gt500 has a different front bumper longer rear extension and has a big block engine. All of which i would say are possible to change as I THINK the chassis is the same ( correct me if i'm wrong) Some of the cars i was looking into restoring and converting to gt500 are: ---- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...179QQitemZ160334885241QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks ---- and ---- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...ac0QQitemZ260409580224QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks What would i be needing (resources) to get the parts needed (engine, body work) and what would you guys say it would cost to completely restore/convert one of these cars. Thanks for the help in advance.
Re: New to the forum. Hello, welcome aboard. I would say a good place to start is to get the "Tony D. Branda" and "Mustangs Unlimited" Catalogs. They carry complete Shelby Body Kits as well as Crate Engines and Susspension Kits and just about every other Part you will need to fo a Factory Shelby Clone or an Eleanor. David.
Re: New to the forum. Sweet thanks for that info bro that really really helps. Also one other main question i have is you know the ebay links of the fastbacks i posted...would anyone know a really really rough estimate as to how much it would cost for the conversion/restoration including the engine
Re: New to the forum. I guess that depends on how extensive you want to get restoring the car. It all depends on what parts you pick and what you start with. A show car with a big block can be $60,000 without much trouble.
Re: New to the forum. Does anyone know a good place that sells actual big block shelby engines and what the pricing is like? Also does anyone know the exact differences (modifications to the body) between the fastback and eleanor kit? I know a few like some welding for the gas cap, rear lights, side skirt welding to make way for side exhausts
Re: New to the forum. Try this.... http://eleanorinspired1967mustangfastback.yuku.com/ Your question is waaayyy too general. Lots of people sell big blocks, do you want a truck enine, a balanced and blueprinted aluminum 427 side oiler. Prices on motors can be $10,000- on up. Specifics matter. Shelby still sells engines, as does Ford.
Thanks i found what i was looking for. Saw a few 427 big blocks on eBay for 8,000-11,000. Right now my main project is to estimate completely how much all the parts will cost. I ordered a few mustang catalogs yesterday should be receiving them in a few weeks. edit- I've been to that forum but they're pretty inactive so i didn't bother registering. ;S http://www.fordcobraengines.com/cobra-kit-engines.asp found some there as well i appreciate the help guys These are the prices of the main parts I've found so far... What do you guys think? Anything overpriced? I made this list of the major parts I'm sure i left out a few things... 347 / 425 HP - Cobra Kit Engine = $8,795.00 1967 ford mustang fastback = $13,000 67/68 1967/1968 MUSTANG FASTBACK ELEANOR BODY KIT = $2,844.88 koni shock absorbers-front. rear $589.95 Eleanor wheels - $ 500.00 65 - 73 Mustang Independent Rear Suspension $4,995.00 OR *65-70 MUSTANG 4-LINK REAR SUSPENSION KIT $1,095.00 (need to weld to axle housing and adjust axle position) 67 -68 Mustang Front Coil Over Conversion Kit $1,995.00 Super Duty Power Front Disc Brake Conversion (Alum) $1,245.00 64-73 Rear Disc Brake Conversion $750.00 67 -68 Mustang Eleanor Side Exhaust Kit $659.00 ----- Also does anyone know a good place to get entire dash kits or would a cover-up skin be fine to replace a dash? Not too sure on this part. I don't have a mustang yet but I'm going to be converting/restoring a 67 fastback in about a years time. Right now I'm just lurking around and researching. Mainly compiling links and prices trying to estimate how much it will cost
