Based on the results of the Mecum auction, how many years back in time have we been transported? When was the last time a GT-500KR sold for 123K? IMHO, the only reason most of 11 of the 21 Cobras and Shelbys sold was because the seller dropped the reserve.

Lots of unsold cars. Didn't somebody say that a previous offer had been turned down for $17,000,000 on that Daytona Coupe (CSX2601)? I heard that somewhere. Seems ridiculous to turn down that kind of offer. Especially now, seeing that it only brought $6,800,000 in offers at Mecum. Maybe it was all a rumor or maybe I'm thinking of something else.

I guess I have to take exception with the KR example. I have been watching 1968 Shelby prices closely for 25 years. Not very many GT500KR fastbacks have consistantly sold for anything above $150,000. It's a dream to get more unless you have something like a survivor or a near perfect car. The basic road cars and lower end show cars have always been in this area. Unless of course, you are factoring the fact, that auction generally brings 20-40% more than retail ?

I see there is a guy in one of the auto traders advertising a KR fastback for $249,000. You can buy a GT500 KR convertible for that and have a lot of pocket change.

Right now there a lot of 1968 GT500KR convertibles in the $150,000 range for serious buyers. Prices are down from 18 months ago, no doubt.

The KR car in question was a nice low milage car that had a repaint and some lower grade detailing under the hood. All in all a very nice driver grade car. Bob

The biggest disappointment I had was the Daytona not bidding up higher. My take on the auction results were that there were some ups and some downs but all in all based on prices and conditions it was about the same as 12 months ago. I think that in itself was a positive. FYI the quality of most of the cars was nothing to write home about.Just my opinion. Bob

Ferrari VS Cobra war continues; World Market keeps Ferrari at top as most expensive car at Auction previosly and presently,May 17, 2009 RM Auctios of London England, held the auction at the Ferrari factory, a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa sold for 12.5 million, between 1958-1961 the car entered 19 international races ,and won 10 of those events it was 1 of 22 built, what a move to time their auction the same time as the Daytona Cobra Coupe?

I can't believe the 67 convert went for $825K. From what I've heard, all of the skins and floorboard on that car were rusted out and were replaced. Does anyone know what is original on that car?

I think the bigger questions concerning that particular car is how was it originally configured and what is the very early history.

They have been debated on the forums for quite a while.
