hi i'm new to the site as well, i actually have a question for anyone out there who can be kind enough to answer. i recently came across a deal which sounds way to good to be true. i found a 67' nightmist blue, shelby gt500, for a price to good to be true. the lady who is selling the car, has stated that she is going through a divorce and the car was recently her ex-husband's, but she ended up with it and has no need or love for the car so she wants to get rid of it, but the only thing is she is out of state and will only sell the car to me through ebay. the car supposedly has just been recently re-stored, she sent me pics of the car and it looks immaculate! she also sent me a vin number as well, but when i put it through the shelby registry it says that it needs to be a 17 digit vin, but the one provided to me is only 13 digits. i feel like the deal is way too good to be true, and that i only am holding onto it because i am so in love with the car. when i was a kid the gt500 is the reason i fell in love with mustangs. any input would help. thank you.
don't even think about buying the car w/o having it inspected. Once inspected you will have the full VIN, and a lot more information to go on. If the seller won't permit an inspection, then you have your answer. Z.
well if it sounds too good to be true it usually is!! I hae a friend that bought a 289 cobra for about 1/2 of market value about 1997. I'm really leary of the Ebay stuff like that. The same friend sold a motor home for around 100k, then started getting calls a few months later asking when they could pick it up, it turns out that someone hacked his ebay account and was taking deposits, some story about being out of the country and selling it for 34k because his wife died and didnt want to deal with it, he had at least 4-6 call where people would wire 3k or more to hold it for them!
This smells like a typical scam that has a good chance of working because "i only am holding onto it because i am so in love with the car." She is willing to sell you the car, but only through EBay. (she likes paying EBay fees and the great seller protection?) She is willing to sell you the car for a price "too good to be true" out of the goodness of her heart? She has not supplied you with the correct VIN, but photos of an immaculate GT-500. Too many restrictions, too vague on the details. The incomplete VIN should set off red lights in your head. If it's THAT good of a deal, she should have no problems letting you see the car in person or having it inspected. Proceed with caution. Good luck,
So, if you show up at her house with cash, she's not going to sell you the car ? What state ? I can probably find someone to go look at it for you free of charge.. Hello!!! I will bet you a dollar you can't get an inspection or an address for a visit. That's what they are counting on. Well, that and few other things. The best advice so far: "...don't even think about buying the car w/o having it inspected. " Your name isn't "fish" is it? They are reeling you in. I am not saying it can't happen, but it's very very very unlikely. I know a guy who just bought a GT500 convertible for about half of what's it worth, in my opinion. He got to see the car before he bought it. I am also not aware of anywhere online that you can enter a vintage VIN and get information back. It doesn't exist.
Its a scam...its all over every craigslist posting...they think that because they have figured how to put ebay in the middle of it that they can get a couple of more suckers...been looking for a daily beater for awhile and have seen the same email response for many many listings of different cars..If you realy want to just see..email stating that you live a couple of miles down the street from them and you want to come and pay cash and ask for a phone number to call and an address and you will see how you wont get anymore emails from that person..
musclediedin69, Just to make a point, the '67 VIN is 13 characters long. Look at the example in my signature below.
Agree to pay via ebay after an inspection, no problem ,right?,...Smells of a scam. These folks live off the saying, "a fool and his money are soon parted".
HI......how about you post the vin she gave you and also the pictures....... if it is the real McCoy - chances are someone here will recognise it - if not, then the experts here will be able to point you in the right direction as to why. ... if it sounds too good to be true - Then IT probably IS !!!!
guys, thank you for all your feedback, i definitely felt, as if this was the deal of a lifetime, and not only that, in this day and age, if a deal is way too go to be true, 90% of the time it is, i totally understand the feed back and definitely appreciate it so much. Thats honestly why i posted on this forum, the love that you guys have for shelby's is awesome. i def will post the pics when i figure out how to do it. lol. this is actually the last email, she sent me, verbatim. "1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Nightmist Blue - VIN# : 67400F7A01736. Note: Older cars than 80s can not be verify on carfax website. I have attached the photos to this email. The car is already at the shipping company in Wilmington, sealed and ready for the shipping. I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them. I'm very busy with my job and I'm out of the town so I can't meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my car over the internet. The shipping cost is included in the price. Here is how it will work: 1.First of all I will need the following details from you: - Full Name - Full Shipping Address 2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay. 3. After they will process your info, they will send you the invoice and the details on how to make a refundable payment. 4. eBay will contact me and I will ship the car to you. After you receive the car you will have 3 days to test, verify and do whatever you need to the car. If you will buy, then eBay will release the money to me. 5. If you will decide that you will not buy the car, eBay will refund you the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my car. If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed. I look forward to hear from you. Thank you" Again thank you for all the advice.
thats what i thought, i like your idea about saying that i am local and only a few miles and ask her if i can get it inspected and the name of the shipping company to see it.
this SMELLS a SCAM SCAM SCAM some mates i have down under have had the same sort of tricks attempted on them ......... so they made of list of scams..... have a look http://www.nzmustang.com/Buysell/Scams.htm hope this helps cheers
You may want to do as I did..Check out the car you are speaking about on Google. I used the vin to search and found the car listed quite a few times on quite a few links.. This tells me something looks Phishy!!! Here are a few links http://www.chooseyouritem.com/classics/files/127000/127434.html http://www.silverauctions.com/auction_view.php?eventid=41&lotid=8207 http://www.used-motor-boat.com/listings/show_ad/5844 http://www.russoandsteele.com/collector_car/1967_shelby_gt500__/6582.html http://www.sportscarmarket.com/downloads/Monterey-06.pdf I doubt you can see this car since its in the hands of someone who knows how car auctions work..Its been auctioned at some of the best auction houses in the country. I don't believe a little woman owns it for a minute!!! What would make you believe you can stand a chance of getting a deal on something that has been offered to the world in this fashion. No deal here!!! I would definitely stay away from contacting this person as they can use your information you give them in responses to do you some very serious harm!!!!!!
Hi all, Just spoke to my friend who has been an appraiser for over 25 years. He says that an ad that sounds identical has been around for a vintage T-BIRD almost word for word the same case--busy with work,no time to be able to meet in person ,must deal through ebay etc.He says SCAM for sure. Most of us would agree someone should be able to stop these people-soon! Thanks for sharing and putting the word out. Regards P.D.
If you don't like this scam, here is another one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...id=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65:3|39:1|240:1318 Bob
One needs to be aware of a new Trojan virus that will clone your page or steal much more information. Then the scammer's can deceive folks into thinking its legitimate. Don't even click on a page that starts by saying..You should check out what others are saying about you!!! That is why you should have a good virus protection on your computer!! I believe the seller on this auction has a good reputation but I also think it is really not him at all. He's been cloned!!!
