I have a set of fiberglass that was taken off my friends fathers 1968 Shelby in the late 70's. The hood and one of the headlight buckets appear to be "white" vacuum mold and the lower valence and right bucket are of the "pink" color. The molds on the buckets look the same. My question is Did Ford use multiple companies for fiberglass for the 1968 Shelbys? Thanks for the time . Robert

The pink fiberglass material was used on the assemblyline as well as a service replacement over the counter Shelby fiberglass parts for wreak repair up until the early to mid 70's. The fiberglass material/formula was then changed which apparently gave a white color to the material. The early to mid 70's was the approximate time when this change occurred. This same scenario can be applied to a 69/70 Shelby fiberglass question as well. I believe it was the same MFG just a different material/formula that gave the fiberglass it's white color on the replacement pieces. In the case of the hood the gray color will not matter because it is all painted. The other front end pieces are a different matter. A good restorer will tint some paint the pink color and paint the backside of the gray fiberglass pieces the assemblyline pink color before painting the top side so as to give a more historically correct appearance to the replacement parts. On the backside of the parts there should be body color over spray on top of the pink color not the other way around. I hope this helps . Bob

Pretty sure AO Smith (Ford's subcontractor) was the only supplier of the injection molded fiberglass in 1968 and 1969. I have seen a few pieces that appear to be manufactured differently, but these have only been on real early cars. The pink or white stuff is what you want.

I do recall seeing some "mint green with white" colored 69 shelby side scoops some time ago.

Yes,the green and white mix was used late in the service replacement parts for the 69 shelby, before Ford obsoleted the parts in the early 80's.Scoops,headlite buckets.Never saw any lower valance in the green and white, only in the white. Most of the fiberglass was made in Ionia,Mi.Someone I know said some front fenders were made in the A.O.Smith plant in Ohio.
