1967 shelby Front seats and 427 tunnel port

    Hay Everyone
    I am in need of some help.
    I am getting to the stage now where i will nearly be ready to start installing the interior in my 67 shelby gt500 however im a little stuck.
    When i got my car it was missing some parts.
    One of the missing parts where the front seats however i got a pair of 67 seats no problem, however after getting the fiberglass seat backs and sides for the front seats out the other day im at a loss as to how they are held on?
    As i have the original seat backs and sides but not front seats was there special brackets or spacers?
    If anyone can help me and post some pictures of the brackets or equipment i will need to reinstall them i would much appreciate it.

    Also just one other question off the main subject im thinking of maybe building a 427 tunnel port engine with dual 4 barrels however alot of people say there not brilliant and dont rev much better than 390 428 can anyone that owns one just enlighten me on what they are like.

    Check on E-Bay,there is a person is a person that reproduces the brackets.If you can find any,let me know as I might a extra set that I would sell.

    On the inside top corners of the seat backs, there should be a metal wedge, pointing down. On the top corners of the seat backs there should be two metal brackets with spacers. The wedges on the seat backs slip down into the rectangular pocket the seat back brackets makes.

    If you bought standard Mustang seats and not Deluxe ones, you might have to drill the holes. Same thing for the holes for the plastic lower seat sides.

    As far as the engine goes, the Tunnelport was built for NASCAR racing. How would it not rev?

    Thanks for the information on the seat backs and engine.
    However if anyone does have any photos of the parts i need for the seat backs i would appreciate it if you could post them.
    I agree with you roddster about the tunnelport engine that it must rev but i guess ive just been ill advised.

    I have three cars with 427 tunnel ports. Two 67 GT 500's and a 67 fastback GT-A. Just Google 427 tunnel-ports and you should find everything that you need. They ran so fast in 1968 that Richard Petty went to drive for Ford. Also check Lemans in 1966. The one that I have with the Nascar crank and rods can probably take a few stabs at 10,000 RPM's. All three have two four single plane intakes. Two with 600 carbs. and the one with the Nascar internals has two 780's.

    Thanks cougar for the information on the tunnelports.What is the difference between the 2 normal tunnelports and the nascar one you have?
    Do they perform well? What sort of speeds have u managed to achieve from these engines? Also any chance of some photots of your engines?:)
    Ive never seen a tunnelport before so im curious about them.
    You wouldnt happen to have any photos of the brackets i need to attach my 67 deluxe seat backs would you? When i got my car it had 69 seats in it and the 67 seats had long gone however the previous owner had kept the fiberglass seat backs and sides.

    My cars are at my garage down town. I will try and get some pictures of the seat brackets tomorrow. I only have one picture of a tunnel-port installed at the house. It is in my 4600 mile ex race car. I believe it may be the lowest mile 67 GT 500 in the world. At least according to the registry. The difference is in the cams, pistons and carburetors. The Nascar engine with the 780 carbs. has a 600 plus lift solid flat tappet cam and about a 13 to one compression ratio. It makes about 700 HP. I had a tunnel port in a 67 fastback in 1968 thru 70 and it ran 10:50's at 130 MPH. Here's a picture of the engine before I put the fan shroud on.

    Thanks cougar for the information on the tunnelports and thanks for spairing sometime to phototgraph those seat brackets 4 me i really appreciate it.
    Just another question that springs to mind with the nascar tunnelport and your 2 normal tunnelports is there any issues with them fitting under the 67 shelby hood? I thought that tunnelports had the high rise intake manifold with dual 4 barrels and that the tallest manifold you could use under the stock 67 shelby hood was medium rise. which i believe they came with.

    All of my cars are 67's. The tunnel port intake is the same height as the medium riser.

    thanks cougar i for some reason thought that the tunnelport manifold was taller i didnt realise it was the same height as the medium riser.

    A real side oiler 427 with Tunnel Port heads and intake is an awesome engine. I have one in my '67 GT Mustang Fastback. I have twin 725 cfm Demons on my engine. It has the single plane 2x4 intake with spacers. It has a full roller cam with .641 inch lift that makes 525 HP at the rear wheels. I have had 428 CJs also. The biggest difference is the way they rev. This TP engine is still pulling hard north of 7K RPM. It revs like a small block. It has quite a unique sound.     Seen your video many times before beautiful car.
    Did all tunnelport 427 use a sideoiler block or a topoiler block then or was there a special block?
    Hay cougar have you had any luck with getting me some photos of the seat brackets i need to install my 67 shelby deluxe seat backs and sides?
    and also some pictures of your awsome rides with 427s in?
    Just another question for you cougar i noticed gt350n4 has a 4 speed behind his 427 what gear boxes are you running behind your 3 427 engines?

    I just finished a 68 fastback with the 427 tunnel port engine. It runs incredible. I used a short shelby-style hood on it and I don't have any clearance issues. I's like to second the statement that if you have an opportunity to put a tunnel port in one of these cars go for it, you won't be disappointed. Here is a pic.
