Can I take the 12V needed for the red wire of the pertronics from the wire that goes into the tach? It starts out as a green wire, I suppose that it may have a red line in it but is hard to see....and then plugs into a red wire that feeds the tach....on the other side of the tach is the pink resistor wire. This is a 1968 GT500 4spd car.

    Thanks Kevin

Not sure but on my friends 69 he ran it to the red wire on the coil and hasn't had a problem in over 2 years.

My suggestion would be do not modify the existing wiring in any way. I guess points were good enough for 35 plus years why change now?

On most cars the Pertronix functions just fine using the wire from the ignition switch. Sometimes there is not enough voltage there and you have to run a switched 12V source to the Pertronix.

I strongly suggest if you run a Pertronix to keep your original points and plate, or an extra Pertronix, in the glovebox. That way you can be up and running quickly in case of a failure. I had one (Pertronix 1) fail on me and know several others who have had failures as well.

I said the same thing but went the other way, back to points. Guess I just find the OE HiPo dual point to be a pretty cool piece. Plus, they work!

I keep my HiPo distributor (with all the plug wires still attached) in the trunk. I think I could get it back on in about five minutes, if & when the msd ignition craps out.
