Built February 6, 1969. Researched past posts and resto articles; not really clear. What inspection/acceptance stickers and paint markings (like on firewall) would go under the hood on this car? A Detroit Locker was added by the dealer at time of original purchase. Would a locker sticker go in the glovebox or on the trunk lid somwhere, or "none" because it wasn't factory installed? Thanks for info.

First I understand the confusion that can come from comparing magazine articles (especially when you look at ones more than a couple fo years old) and pictures on the web.

The best place to find out what was on your car is your car so its always important that owners and shops document 100 times more than you think you should. But unfortunately many of these cars have been altered and "restored" over the years :(

That being said there are marks and locations that are somewhat typical once you look at enough original examples. There are also details that do not fit into what was typical and IMHO those are the ones to avoid since that may be the only time that those were placed there.

Remember The lack of any of these marks and some of the decals does not equal point deductions but I understand that there is allot of peer pressure to have all the dots and daubs

With that behind us let's see how much your asking for help with

1- Engine compartment decals such as service, engine id, filter replacement, battery inspection.....

2- Inspector stickers normally located on the cowl above the pinchweld and in the drivers door jamb - Not real easy (working through this my self) since they were paper based decals and they normally only lasted a couple of years on original cars. Add to this that some versions are not reproduced - and about half of the reproductions are made incorrectly IMHO

3- Paint daubs and identification paint marks applied at Dearborn or AO Smith. This would be a short list of typical ones IMHO

Lastly thanks for including the real build date for the car in question in the first post (February 6, 1969.) thanks

As you might notice - lots of info to cover from a short request ;)

Thanks for the info. I have some of the engine compartment stickers like service, battery inspection, etc but I don't have any paint or sticker on the heads or valve cover (I've seen "OK" on some cars and a number on other cars) and no firewall assembly line stickers. I want to start with these and work my way through. Maybe I should post a picture of my engine bay and get comments?

Depending on who you got the decals from (if its a "kit" IMHO you'll end up throwing about 50% of those away) those will have to be placed based on where the car was assembed and when. Internet pictures and magazine ones will be a poor guide

As for the OK that you saw (where ever those owners placed them) you may be able to make one from the sample provided over on the 428 CJ site. Use the search feature in the forums and the information on the first page to answer this - http://www.428cobrajet.org

As for the inspector stickers there are a bunch of badly reproduced IMHO ones out there. You need to find the smaller square ones with square corners. From there we can discuss where some might have been originally located. As mentioned before one version of these stickers is not being reproduced and unfortunately you car may have had those originally

    Hope this helps

I have a 1969 GT5oo Cobra Shelby. This is is a one owner car and also is registered in the shelby registry. My dad passed away few years ago and i have been trying to get as much information as i can on this vehicle. I found that it has matching vins (door and dash) and is original and still running with 62,600 miles. Hard to find a buyer that will take care of it and has the money to buy it.
I know it is original just looking where i can redeem the original sticker for the car. Any suggestions?

Matching VIN's is typically refering to the dash plate and the secret stamped VIN stamped on the aprons as well as the engine block. The door tag is not used by government agencies for VIN verification as it even states on the tag. The original door tag is important it is just of lesser importance then the other VIN locations I mentioned. If you are trying to accumulate paperwork in order to enhance the value when selling I would first purchase a Marti Report www.martiauto.com for the car. I hope this helps. Bob

Thanks for your info. I have been asked from a couple people if i had this marti report. I went to the website and it doesnt seem very important, seems like something you pay for and you can post it on your wall as a collector. AM i in the right place looking for a good report? There are diiferent prices on reports a person can pay for and not sure which will benefit me the most? Need some help to determine which report to purchase and what benefit i can receive having the report you can recommend...I appreciate all your help.

Get the deluxe report. It has become the standard of the industry. It helps verifies the car in the eyes of others. You might as well get it now because you will be asked time and time again by knowlegdgable buyers for it. It takes some weeks to get it unless you pay extra for a expedited processing. Bob
