Hello Guys, This my first post and I'm really enjoying this forum! I've seen a lot of the threads on 10 spoke wheels and I have a few questions. I'm working on a 67 GT 500 for a friend and he has some interesting wheels. The wheels are from the late 70's to early 80's I believe and have a gold center. They also have the valve stem in the center of the wheel not on the rim. The wheels are tappered like other posts have stated. The problem I have are the lug nuts as I'm missing a few and they are flat with washer not countersunk. I'm thinking these are some of Branda's early sets as a few posts suggest. So, where do I find the correct lug nuts and two the gold color is in correct, I believe. I was going to try Branda tomorrow but you guys are a great source of info!! Great site and many thanks, Matt.
Hi Matt, I don't think the ones you have are Branda made but the ones made by Carroll Shelby Wheel Corp but later on when his son was running it (circa late 70's-early 80s) I've seen a bunch with the gold centers but I'm not sure if that was an option they had or something a lot of owners just did. I think if you have the wheels refinished they would come out bare aluminum as the gold is just paint. As far as the lug nuts, they are just standard short shank mag wheel nuts/washers. Any speed shop should be able to supply them. Do not attempt to use they original style conical seat mag lugs with those wheels as they will not only damage the wheel but be potentially hazardess as well.
You may want to try summit racing products. I think I remember seeing them there. They carry just about every kind of lug made by man. Chris
Hey Thanks for the advice on the lug nuts. I did find the same ones he was using through Summit Racing. They still are not the correct ones that I've seen on other cars. Does anyone sell the correct lug nut for 10 spokes BUT with a flat face? I think I'm going to have to buy the conical lugs and they turn them down on a lathe and then get them re chromed! That is a lot of work!! Thanks for any help, Matt
