    Hello,
    Can anyone tell me what the correct Make, Model, and Body Type would be for original CA registration on a 1967 Shelby?

    For example, is the make SHLB, or SHEL, or SHBY? I think it should be 4 characters...but if you have an original CA reg card...you would know.

    I'm importing a car and I want to make sure I get this right.
    Thanks jamesroney@yahoo.com

    Thanks to whoever said "morrison reg." That got me a great image of the validated reg card from 1969 showing:
    Make = "GT500"
    Model = "76"
    Body type = "CPE02"

    Depends on the person working the window. Seen it many different ways

    My 69 was registered = Make - FORD Model - LK Body - CP

    It was a very early 69 GT500

    The VIN tells the real story ;)

    As Jeff stated, if really depended on who worked the window. Or like in Illinois, who manned (womaned?) the typewriter. My title just says 1967 Ford, HT (for hardtop I suppose).

    OK, I completely understand that the human that is entering the data can do it differently...but that doesn't mean that there is not a standard or proper way to do it.

    Are you saying that Shelbys are usually titled as "Ford"

    Thanks for the info...

    Nope - but reporting that there was/is no standard that I am aware of. Just about each one I've seen (especially early cars) was different in some way. For the later (69-70's) would say that most have been registered as Fords since they carry a Ford VIN - not a Shelby one in the eyes of the state.

    When I bought my 67 it was registered in California.
    I will see if I can find the title or if they took that when
    I exported the car to Sweden.

    Once when I moved I was transferring registration, and the clerk asked the usual battery of questions. When she asked "bodystyle?" I said "fastback". When I got the registration, you guessed it, the paperwork said the car was "FAST".
