hi ok, so i'm a half century young female, 2010 shelby gt500 owner. actually, i will p/u my new ride this week, and am ecstatic. my first car purchase, back when i was 18, would have been either a vette or shelby. buut, i figured, since it was a "sports car", it would need maintenance (which i couldn't afford), as in the mg or austin healy, so i didn't purchase one. my bad... anyhow, whether the 2010 shelby is real or memorex (as reading other posts), i own one. am planning on upgrading stereo (focal, mcintosh and rockford) and exhaust system (borla - cat-back). anyone know of a company that is able to purchase and install such speaker/exhaust sys in my car. lake placid, fl, 33852 thanks lori
Welcome Lori, congrats on your new purchase! When it arrives please post a picture on here. What color is your new ride? These new Shelby's are awesome cars and I am sure you will enjoy it for many years.
How close are you to Lake Wales, FL? I have a friend there who is pretty knowledgeable about Shelby's........Guacki
here is my answer to your post, for all its worth. if you got the 500 or 1000 shaker, both are excellent. when you begin to dismantle a well made vehicle, such as the cobra (dash, floors, etc) you begin to open pandora's box (rattles, mistakes, not a truly balance system). I'm 59 yrs old, my ears can only take so much. my advice on the radio is don't touche. I have 3400 miles on mines, not a rattle. and this suspension is race ready. I have the 500 with nav. no change for me. now as far as exhaust is concerned, your greatest mistake lies here. no exhaust ever designed works this well. every gear has a magic sound. even at cruising speeds ( the interior was designed to be quite) you can still here the faint exhaust note. this is a dedicated performance exhaust system. this is my kind of exhaust system. mature while cruising. in town the radio is optional for me, because the exhaust music is more appealing. any aftermarket exhaust is going to be louder. borla will be louder with more crackle and pop. CORSA is the cream of the crop. neither will produce more power, just more noise. so search your soul about this. you just purchased a great car. let it live as a great car. none of us novice drivers are a match for this beast at the limits. JMHO
And I would disagree that the Shaker sound system in the Mustang is excellent. I prefer driving my Dodge with its Infinity system when I am in the mood for road tunes. Go ahead and upgrade. Ford offers a Blaupunkt upgrade to their Shaker radios if you decide to keep the OEM look. robin
to Rob; how much time have you spent in the 2010 shelby. if you are not driving one every day, your perceptions might not be warranted.
congrats on the ride Lori. The first thing you ought to do is go to mgwltd.com and change out that ugly power cap on the dash with a nice chrome one with a cobra on it. Next, listen to firetruck. Before you start modding go to a shelby meet and look and listen to other cars and then see if you want to do that. Unless you really crank on the stereo volume that shaker system is great. There are three companies that make the oil for the shelby. ford motorcraft, castrol and valvoline. Make sure your ford service man is aware that the car uses 5w 50 full synthetic. I say this because my ford guy did not even know that the shelby used a different oil. Good luck.
hello again lori. There is another question on the forum about how much over or under MSRP the gt500 is going for. Can you please provide some input on that?
Point taken, I will accept that Ford may have made sonic improvements over my '07 model. Although, I still have my doubts. robin
msrp is a fair price for this vehicle, given its new release, capabilities and popularity. don't pay over that. there are a lot of honest dealers out there that just charge msrp. if it were the end of the year on this model, msrp would warrant a pass.
thanks all for your input i live in a very small town (lake placid, fl). good idea to listen to systems at sebring's meet at the circle. i have focal/yamaha home system and am truly in aaaw. one of the first things i do, is change out stereo systems. hard part is trying to find quality workmanship in such a small town. i have been listening to youtube videos with the different exhaust systems. didn't mean to scare anyone. i will take my time with any decisions made. friday should be D day. i purchased car sight unseen. car will be transportrd from down south. didn't haggle with price. not the right time. car is too new. got the car at base price before any dealer add ons, which is $7,000 less than other dealers start point. anyone interested in a purchase, talk to bruce at bill jarrett ford in avon park, fl. nice guy. tell him lori sent you. oh yea, the car is white w/ blue stripes. I'M SOO EXCITED, I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT. I'M ABOUT TO LOSE CONTROL AND I THINK I LIKE IT! will post foto soon.
They make a system with a backup camera that comes up on the nav screen if you like gadgets like that. The camera is put in the keyhole of the trunk. Also notice that your mouth gets dry the first time you drive your new beast and it will turn a lot of heads too.
shroom: I don't understand the $7k before dealer addons. is this a special order car. most shelbys are at least $48k.
alot of dealers are selling the shelby for $53,000, which includes alot of hogwash add-ons. i got mine for $46,000. came w/shaker 500 (for the price of the car, i would have expected more from the stereo, it SUX) and a cover. didn't need anything else. will most definitely change out stereo (focal speakers, at the least). so far, exhaust sounds great as is. color is white w/ blue stripes (quite hot looking, like old times). have it at my mom's til my garage is finished, and driveway has cured. any other ??, please feel free to ask. didn't even drive the car b4 i purchased it... just had the salesman take ME for A RIDE!!! what a blast to drive!! i am smiling!!! i am happy!!! put on over 100 miles the first day (within a couple of hours)... ENJOY!!!
It is something I saw on the gt500 forum. It is a pioneer product per the pics. It is under rayman got my beast on that forum
