Hey Guys (and girls). Can you check your cars? I am trying to finish #2914 and found another problem. My Hi beams are outboards but I have an inboard bracket. I know my car was hit in the late 60's and am wondering if the body shop replaced the center bracket with an early '67 or if this was one of those parts Shelby wanted to "use up". Also any cars around 2900, where are your horns mounted? Thanks!!!
Your outboard car should have the regular Mustang hood latch bracket(center bracket). They made the center headlight brackets as needed . Your car is relitivly late production and "if" some were left over chances are it would have already been used. I haven't ever seen a center headlight bracket used on a outboard car that was in a original context in my experience. I would stop just short of saying it could never happen. It is very unlikely a scenario like what you propose happened. The correct part that was "supposed" to be installed is common to hundreds of thousands 67/68 Mustangs and relativly easy to procure. Besides looking out of place the center headlight bracket impedes cooling. There is no good reason to use it based on the information you give. If it were my car I would put the correct engineered part on and not give another thought to using the center headlight one. Just my opinion. The horns on outboard cars are mounted on the hood pin brackets and secured by the screw in hood bumpers. The best of luck with your project. Bob
Hi Bob, Thanks for posting. I also feel as you do, but want to hear from others out there to make sure. I always use common sense, and in this case I think your right. I went to 2 shows this weekend (Queen Mary and Santa Monica Pier) in the Los Angeles area and found the horns mounted as you described. I really think they were put in the wrong spot by the body shop. I hope to have the car on the road (after 18 years) by the first of the year! Thanks
Snakeoil: My advice to you is listen to Bob. He is a SAAC judge and knows these cars insdie and out. Bob has helped with the restoration of my 67 Shelby and has been dead nuts on. Jim #3000
