I've been planning to build a track car. My plan has been a late 80's Porsche 911. I've even picked up some parts that have come up for sale. Donor cars range anywhere from $12-16K for what I need. Suddenly I find myself at the vintage races at Road America a couple weeks ago looking at two beautiful early Shelbys. (See pics below) So I started thinking, why not build an early Mustang? Parts seem to be relitively cheap and I've seen a few cars go on eBay for relitively low prices. What could I expect to pay for a rust free 65-66 fastback? "Rust free" being the only important criteria.

"Rust free"? The only way I know to do that is pictured below. They don't make a 65 (yet) but a 67 has possibilities. Of course, the "tribute" car on the above link is $25k, and you'd be hard-pressed to build it yourself for that little.

Thanks for the replies. Yes those new '67 bodies are tempting.
