Since I own a GT500 I would like to keep it original so maybe in quite a few years the car will maintain its value or maybe a bit more. It is stock and the question is, the value of the car will better as it is or much much better on the future if I turn it Super Snake. I want to send it to Las Vegas and have converted to Super Snake 725hp but I am scared to make a mistake. Much better stock and original as it is or as Super Snake. BTW I am new in this Shelby thing; I have never owned one before and I love it!! Any opinions or recomendations you can give will be appreciated. Thanks!!
I say keep it stock. Go www.carsonline.com,,,,Scroll down to the 1969 gt500's and look at the prices they are bringing. New,those cars went for $5000.00.Most of those shelby's are stock or as close to original as can be.
If you want to modify it and the only thing that is holding you back is your fear of hurting the value then It is my opinion- modify it if it will make you happy. The 10's of thousands of GT500's that are made every year will in the future keep the collectible value down on the late model Shelby's. The cars are going to depreciate for many years to come. Maybe slower then a normal Mustang but still depreciate. I hope you didn't buy the car as a investment . You could make more in a common savings account. I drive my car knowing that it is depreciating whether I drive it or not so I choose to drive it. I am fortunate enough to have a Ford GT that has been modified to 702hp at the rear wheels which approximately 840 hp at the flywheel so I have scratched that itch, otherwise I would modify the engine on the 07 GT500 in a heartbeat. That hasn't kept me from modifying the car in other ways, suspension wise and cosmetic wise. Unlike my vintage Shelby's that are worth less the more wear and tear is on them and the more non factory items are on them. Now the down side on modifying the late model is you will be hard pressed to ever get the cost of ANY modifications whether it be cosmetic or a Shelby converted Supersnake over what a regular stock GT500 sells for . Maybe a little more but not even close to wholesale. So make those decisions with your eyes open . The point is do what makes you happy whether you modify it or keep it stock. Investment wise it will not make a difference for a long ,long, long time IMHO. Bob
