I'm not sure how the service order was written up, but we talked about how oxidation is taking place on the stripes. When I take the car in to have the stripes applied, I'll post what was written up. My car has about 16K miles on it.

We attended the Shelby show in Santa Monica, CA today and there was a 2006 Hertz there, one of only 18 built with a manual transmission. It has only 250 miles on it, was never rented out, and is in nearly flawless condition. Apparently, Shelby sold these cars to Hertz executives only. Being that it's in much better condition than mine, I breathed a sign of relief that it won't be in the show mine's in tomorrow!

I bought my 07 sgt white w/silver stripe, july of 07 within 6 mo stripe had cloudy water marks all over the top tape stripes, the stripes were replaced under warr. with the upgraded stripe kit (thicker and more uv resistant they said.) 1 year later rust colored spots all over the top tape. I thougt possibly when they reatachted the hood scope, that they had used metal rivets creating the rust spots, but they are all over the top tape not just by the hood scope allthough a lot of the oxidation is on the hood by the scope. I will be contacting my local dealer and having them approve another warranty of the stripe. My hope is once I get the approval I can convince them to take the warr. money and apply it to getting them painted on.

We've run into a snag, but are hopeful about the eventual outcome. I received a call from the dealer which agreed to cover the stripes, and they tried to tell me that I don't have a Shelby, but a GT that has been faked to look like a Hertz. What they didn't understand is that the Hertz Shelbys are not cut from the same cloth as a regular Shelby. So we've gone round and round with them, and have produced the substantial documentation that ours is a geniune Hertz Shelby. We are waiting for them to acquiesce and order our stripes. If something doesn't happen soon, we'll drive it to Las Vegas and have the Shelby people there take a look. My stripes have blotches of oxidation on them.

Not sure where driving it here will get you, after I bought mine I took it out there to show it to them and they told me I had to take it to the dealer for any warr. help. I have a friend who works out there installing the superchargers, and he informs me that they sub out the striping on the car now, I don't believe that was always the case, but it is now.

Update. I have visited three dealerships and have been denied at all three. They tell me the stripes are only covered under warranty for 12 months although I can not find this warranty stated in my warranty book I received from Ford or Shelby. I original took my car to be evaluated at 15 months old and 9k miles when i first denied.

If my stripes do not get covered I will not buy another Ford or Shelby vehicle again. At $40k price for this car, I am pissed.

I just purchased a 2007 Shelby GT White with the Silver stripes. And after much checking and talking with Ford, if you did not have the problem in the first 12 months or 12,000 miles, you are on your own with the replacement. There is nothing out there to clean that I could find. I have found a decal company in Surprise AZ, called Decal Shoppe, that I have just ordered a set of decals for the front to rear for $169.00 and with shipping and taxes comes out to $178.99 As soon as I get them, I would be happy to let you know what I think about them and the matching. They say they are the same color but until I see them, I don't believe them. But with all the checking, replacing is the only option. I hope this helps you.

I have heard that if the stripes should start peeling up say at the corners Ford will replace them.

Just got back from my local dealer he took pictures of my rust spotted stripes and informs me the stripe is on back order, he has a Barret Jackson car on his lot that has been waiting on a stripe for over 60 days. I'm also getting the hood scope replaced, it looks like you could drink out of it. I'm wondering if Ford racing and Shelby will agree to paint it on rather than make me wait for 6 months for another subpar stripe. My car will be out of warranty the next time it goes bad. If anybody has had success with getting them to agree to paint it on, let me know,
    Thanks

I stripe cars for a living. 17 years. I have replaced a number of them (Shelby GT's) for the local ford dealers with the hood scoops. It's not rust or peeling. It's what silver does particularly on darker color cars that hold more heat. Particularly upper surfaces that are exposed to 3 times the sunlight as the side stripes. Basically burning off in slow motion. They have upgraded the vinyl and added clear over the silver but there is no pigment to silver metallic. It just won't last as long as a non metallic vinyl. Even if it is a high performance vinyl, most vinyl manufacturers will not warranty an application on a horizontal surface.

So what is the answer ? I'm going to try and get shelby to paint it on, if the price is about the same I don't know why they would care one way or the other but we'll see.

If it's out of warranty and stays outside all the time have them painted on. Otherwise be prepared to replace them every 2 years.

All, this stripe issue is serious. I had my stripes replaced 3 times in the first 10 months I had my Shelby GT. I finally got tired of this and told the dealer and Shelby (in writing and in person) they needed to come up with a solution to fix them for good. While I've been waiting for a response the stripes have gotten worse, and are embarrassing. The dealer even said it looks like my car has cancer. Once those stains start there's no removing them, and they get worse and worse.

My issue went to the top at Ford along with several other cars from my dealer then to Shelby. Shelby is claiming it's an environmental issue, and not covered under warranty after 12 months or 12k miles. Apparently it's a different environmental issue depending on where you live. So, now that I've passed the 12 months and 12k issue, I'm out of luck according to Shelby.

I don't know about you, but when I purchased this car I didn't expect this to happen, nor do I think any reasonable person would either. Shelby is refusing to back their product, which is sad because they have an awesome reputation.

Needless to say, my lawyer is on it now, and we are deciding if we should pursue a class action lawsuit against Shelby, since several of you are obviously also having the same issue.

Still don't have a resolution to my request. I would much prefer to have the stripes painted on, and may just have to pay for it myself. Very disappointed! I wonder what else on the car is only designed to last a year or two and is not covered under my three year warranty?

07 white with silver stripes. My stripes were fine, kept the car treated with Tech Wax. I had to have the hood and front valence stripes replaced due to a collision with a deer. Now the original top and deck lid stripes are spotting. The new hood stripes show scrape marks where they used a squeege to apply them. It has 40,000 miles on it, I think they need to be painted on. What color is used on the hood scoop? It is silver with a white tape stripe.

I would be in on a class action suit. I don't want to have this problem resurface later.

This has been an ongoing problem since the cars were new. Quite frankly I am surprized Shelby Automobiles has not stated an official position. I would like the paint code for the silver on the hood scoop and have a body shop paint the stripes on the car. Mine has over 40,000 miles now and warranty is gone....I'm not paying for stripes out of my pocket if they are going to die again....SEE YA

    Howdy all,
I have an 08 SGT, SGT 08 1380, Vista Blue with silver stripes. Bought it in June 09, new. About a week after I had it I noticed the stripes had spots on them. Went back to dealer an after 10 months they received some of the stripes to replace. Between the Shelby stripes and some local made stripes the dealer replaced most of them. The back ones still need replaced.

The dealer body shop did a poor job of applying them. Someone forgot to wear their glasses, I guess. Looks terrible. The gaps are different all the way down the car.

I'm not a happy camper with Ford or Shelby and especially my ford dealer.

They offered to paint them on for 1000. I bet I could get it done cheaper at a local body shop.

They are going to order the stripes again.

I give up. I tried another dealer a couple of months ago and they were going to submit to Shelby for approval. Never heard back, so I'm going to a very good body shop to have stripes painted on soon--I don't want to continue dealing with this issue. My car is entered in the Fabulous Fords Show at Knott's Berry Farm in just over a week, and rumor has it that Mr. Shelby will be there. I hope I can get him to take a look at how awful my stripes make the car appear. I don't expect that he'll do anything, but would like to see his reaction. In the meantime, it sure is embarrassing when a tall vehicle pulls up behind me---I'm sure they see how terrible the trunk lid looks. I'll mention this thread to Shelby if I do get to talk to him.
