LaJolla (pronounced "La Hoya") is a great little town on the north side of San Diego. They are going to have a concours/car show Jan. 10th and Cobras and Shelbys are invited as they are the featured marque. Here's some details on this website http://www.lajollamotorcarclassic.com/ The venue is right on the cove area, a big stretch of lawn bordered by the sea. There's also a tour on Saturday culminating at one of the finer seaside restaurants. There's inexpenvise hotels closer to Mission Bay, a few miles South, if the LaJolla prices are a bit much (simillar to Santa Barbara prices, a similar beachside town). Can't predict the weather that far ahead but mostly it's sunny there.
Anyplace on the water is expensive Go inland. I found the hotels near Mission Bay, still a little bit inland (near the new car dealerships) will be lower priced. Since the water will be cold this time of year, it's not that important to be on the water, and the event is overlooking the ocean all day long anyhow. Be sure to go to Georges on the Cove, in La Jolla, top floor where the umbrellas are..reasonably priced and great view (I do not work for this restaurant by the way)
