Not to twist this away from the color question, but now is the time to present that information to the 66 registrar as they are appoaching the cut-off date for the latest version of the registry. I mean now......

And, on a lighter note: Just rev up the engine and tens and twenties fly out of the tailpipes....

I guess I need to tune mine up, because when I rev mine up it sucks in those tens and twenties.

IMO you should paint the car to suit yourself, not some hypothetical future owner. Not uncommon for somebody to paint a car the "correct" color only to get rid of it because it is not what they want.

You have to ask yourself - do you own the car, or does the car own you?

With something as unique as a GT350H, it's a little of both.

Tom, I highly recommend that you email the SAAC Registrar at 65-66registrar@saac.com and let him know about your car. This will benefit you in several ways. First, he can confirm your car as original by comparing the Ford and Shelby VINs against factory records. (NEVER give your Ford VIN to anyone except the registrar!) Second he can list you as the owner in his records and have you shown as the owner in the next printed Registry. This could help you prove you own the “real” Shelby if someone ever builds a fake and uses your VIN. Third, he often has factory paperwork on these cars and will send you copies (for a reasonable fee.) This could include things like shipping invoices and warranty repair receipts for your specific car. Cool stuff to have.

BTW, like most of the posters here, I would probably go with black, but it's your car so pick the color YOU want. Don't get hung up on what other people think.

I agree with the statements on getting the info in for the next registry and keeping the original color. As far as the 8track, it required cutting the radio openning so you will need to weld in a replacement section if you get rid of it. I have kept the 8 track in the wife's 1965 GT and have a recorder to remake the tapes, Doors, Cream, etc. My 66 GT350 sound system remains the sweet resonance of solid lifters and tuned exhaust. Who can hear a radio?

Exactly, it's not really your car. Originally, when the Shelby was considered just an overpriced Mustang; it didn't really matter what you did to the car. Now, with the extreme prices they demand, it just isn't prudent to modify, or deviate from original. This of course is just my opinion, from experience, and is not endorsed by anyone. Cheers!

I just checked my 1997 Shelby Registry and there is no owner listed for SFM6S1984. Those are the cars that crooks look for when starting out to build a fake and palm it off as real. So I'm going to repeat my advice to contact the SAAC Registrar for these cars and get your name in the records. That simple action now could save you from a big, expensive legal problem in the future. No one wants a fake out there with their VIN on it. And once that happens, even if you win in court, it could leave a public perception of doubt over the legitimacy of your car forever. You can imagine what that would do to its value.

Not really related to your color choice.....but friend of mine bought a 66 GT-350....white with blue stripes in the early 80s. It wasn't the greatest so he was going to repaint it. He found that it was a H car that had been repainted. We assumed people may have wanted to hide the fact that it was a rental car bitd.
