I have not put many miles on my GT-500. In fact, the fuel in the car will be two years old in Febraury. I was wondering how to go about removing the old fuel and replacing it with fresh.
Re: Old fuel There should be a drain on the bottom of the tank. You can open the plug and get a nice gas bath. If you store the car longer than 30 days you should try a product like Stabil.
Re: Old fuel You can disconnect the short piece of fuel hose at front of tank that leads to the steel fuel line. As mentioned, its hard to do without getting a fuel bath.
Re: Old fuel Thanks for the replies. My car is a 2008 GT-500. I have been using Sea Foam as a fuel stabilizer.
There is no "easy" way to do it. The fuel tank does not have a drain plug on your car. You will need about 6 foot of 1/4" or 5/16" fuel hose to feed down the fuel filler neck to siphon the fuel out. Any larger hose will not make it into the fuel tank. The next easiest way is to disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter or fuel rail, connect a hose into a container, then using a capable scan tool command the fuel pump to turn on. Jumping the fuel pump relay will not work to turn on the pump on this car by the way. The only other option is to remove the fuel pump or pass side sending unit under the rear seat and siphon it out through the mounting hole. Hope this helps.
I have had the same problem with ethonal in the tank for a number of months. Using Seafoam is much better than Stabil for fuel sitting for months, especially if you can get the marine version. I siphoned batches of old fuel in 5 gallon increments to burn in another late model vehicle with at least 1/2 fresh gas with no problems. When the tank on the donor fuel car was as close to empty as I could get it, I refilled with fresh fuel by 1/2 tank runs and ran the car as much as possible, but not hard. After a couple of refills, all was fine. The computer in either vehicle adjusted for any detonation problems. Used only premium fuel, Then refilled to full. No problms
