Okay guys, check this out! What the heck? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...58aQQitemZ160373818762QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks
This car (belive it was this one) has been up for sale before - owner is attempting to make a buck IMHO on the oddity of the car. Just a mistaken stamping like a number of others, like the fastbacks with coupe VINs. Rare, odd but worth allot more ????
Well...... I used to own a very early 65 Fastback that had a LOT of 64 1/2 stuff like a Generator and the Short Carpet with Vinyl Rocker Sides.
Hi all, This is an exception of the normal, but really is not that special.Looking at a vin in the 300,000 range shows it is a standard production unit-all the real pre-production cars that have surfaced so far have low vin numbers. After an afternoon of research in Dearborn I learned that Fastback production started with a new range of vins.....and I have yet to see a generator equipped Fastback,or one with the vented radiator support that is unique to the early generator equipped cars. Many other features like wiper bezels-heater switches-vinyl covered rockers and short carpet-colored lock knobs-lightweight diecast 1/4 extensions-beveled headlamp housings and hoods to match...and stuff like this is often found on early build fastbacks. Hope this helps answer some questions. P.D.
I used to have a 64 1/2 coupe, May 64 production, had all the usual stuff, unique hood, different length "mustang" fender badge, gas cap with no bail wire, generator, etc. The vin number of that car had a 5 for the first digit. This is just a wrong stamping a seen on a few other cars.
A while back the salesman at the dealership that has that car inquired about it on VMF. He is well aware it's nothing more than a mis-stamped car. I hope nobody pays big bucks over it's usual value for it.
