I just came across a disposable lighter with the "COBRA" logo and "SHELBY AMERICAN, INC. 6501 W Imperial Hwy-L.A. 90009" stamped on it. I've been looking for a can of "Pit Stop" for 30 years but never have I come across one of these. Has anybody ever seen one of these? Picture in the gallery section of memorabilia and collectibles.

I did not think that disposable lighters were available until around 1972? Was there still a Shelby office in LA then?

The lighter is a "SUPER CRICKET". I googled "Cricket lighter history" and found that Cricket was the worlds first disposable lighter in 1961. I may repost this in the general area in hope I may find more of a response.

I am not a smoker but I couldn't remember ever seeing a disposable lighter before the early 70's.

    Cool piece though,

Looks cool, I have never seen one before. Is this in any of the old catalogs?

I'm not sure how badly you would like to find some "Pit Stop" but you might want to check out eBay item#280416168776.

Wow, $795.00 for 40 year old can of deodorant?:noway: I guess that is for the Shelby collector that truly already has everything else.

    Hey Guys,

I have recently bought a collection of literature and memorabilia from a man who has been collecting since the early sixties when he was growing up in So Cal taking tours of the factory in his spare time....

I found one of these lighters in the collection. Everything else in the collection is original and some very rare material! So im not saying this lighter is an original shelby american item. All im saying is that it came in a collection of about 200+ original shelby american period items and this man claims to have received it in the period...

    Best Regards,
    vern
