67 gt350 grille emblem

Seems every time a "is a new flat emblem available" question comes up, "somebody" is working on it. The problem is there are roughly only 75 cars out there built with them. And, how many would you make? Tough questions to answer.

I flattened a curved one, slowly, between two hockey pucks, with weight on top. Eventually ending up with a cylinder head on the pucks. And time. I'm talking months, you cannot hurry the process. And even after six months, there will be a slight curve. Then, after you mark the adapter to where it matches the off-set screw hole in the gas cap, you put the screw in, and glue it to the adapter. What I mean here is that you have to index the adapter to the car, so the emblem sits level when installed. Then put the weight back on for a day or two while the glue dries.

Things to think about:
1) I used a thin scraper to remove the original emblem....and ruined it.
2) You cannot put in through a roller to flatten a curved one. I'm not the only guy that tried this, and ruined an emblem.
3) If I was to try this again with an original emblem, I would imerse the original one in either laquer thinner or 3M adhesive remover until the glue let the emblem go. That also might take a while but you wouldn't wreck the original emblem,
4) Either way, the original emblems seem to fade to silver.
5) I figure the adapter was installed onto the gas cap at Shelby American, them the emblem was glue on to it, where it sat level.

I'm about 4 months into pressing the curved emblem. At the moment, if I lay the emblem face down on a table, the edges are about 1/16 " above the table surface. I have the emblem between two small (approx 1/2 " thick) hardback books with 210 lbs of weight. I guess I need to step it up and place the emblem between denser material instead of hardback books.

I do have my original cap and the flat emblem plus another cap that I destroyed the emblem getting it off. The problem is taking the flat adapter off without bending it up. I've removed the short phillips countersunk screw, but the adapter is stuck big time. What I want to do is clean up and replate my original square-blocked fomoco fuel cap assembly. I was planning on cleaning/polishing & using my flat adapter plate, but if needed, I am willing to get a new one from Randy.
