    Hello all,

I would like to ask a favor of the 1966 owners. Ever since I first got my car the wiring for the tach was shoved down under the speaker/defroster grille in the dash pad. Someone had cut a notch in the defroster duct to allow more room for the wiring. This just has never seemed right to me. I would like to have a picture of the back side of the tach so I can route my wiring the same way. If someone could post a picture or send it to me I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

I went to the body shop today checking the progress of work on mine, and snapped this shot of what's underneath the tach mount while the windshield is out. Fairly certain it's an original dash pad, been there since 1980 that I know of.

    Thanks Ken,

Your picture helps as well. I have not replaced the dash pad in mine so I don't know if the metal dash has the hole in it or not. I am assuming not, or that they didn't want to cut a big hole in a new dash pad, since the way it has been wired since I have owned it. It is kind of hard to tell what size the hole is from the picture. Do you know what size it is, or a good guess would be great too.

    Thanks

IIRC, the hole is 1/2". The reason for the hole, much larger than the wires, is at the factory there was a short piece of 1/2" steel tube to keep the bracket from being crushed into the pad, and to keep the tach from vibrating on top of the foam pad.
