early 67 gt350 grille hardware

Chris, the bracket that extends across from one fender to the other which the fiberglass nose is secure to as well as the grill and has a place for the license plate is called the license plate bracket. Look underneath and see if there are holes in the metal channel. You said slots before but maybe you were looking in the wrong place. Bob

 

Chris , I am beginning to suspect that parts of the front of the car have been replaced . Besides the hardware you pictured previously and the additional emblem in the front , the small hole picture are for rivets and not the screws like I showed in my post. Now since the holes indicate that a corresponding hole should be in the fiberglass and there is none then a couple things come to mind that start to make sense when you add them all together . This is just a hypothetical scenario but lets say the car is involved in a minor front end collision very early in it's life . A virgin nose is procured which has never had any holes drilled in it and a used license plate bracket is procured from another Shelby which has already had holes drilled in it for rivets -a later one that used a two piece grill that would normally have the bottom lip riveted down through the channel of the license plate bracket. This would also explain some of the other little mysteries like the different hardware and the additional emblem in the front. not to mention the lack of the three to four hold down screws that was typical in these early one piece slanted grill cars. I am not saying that this how it happened but is just one plausible explanation. It is very hard to make a determination without seeing the whole car and how all of the parts relate to each other . My pleasure as always. You can probably find the ring and fasteners at your local hardware store. It isn't anything uncommon . One thing that is not pictured is a rubber grommet that went into the hole made into the fiberglass which was larger then the hole made into the metal channel . The outside rubber edge should be just a hair larger in diameter then the diameter of the metal ring that sets on it. The thought was apparently to protect the paint on the fiberglass from the metal "beauty ring " . Bob

Here are a few more of #0031. The three fasteners are that go through the top shelf into the license plate bracket are smaller than 1/4", machine screw sizing. Does anyone else have the same style of license plate mounting bracket?

Randy, the screw that I have found consistent on numerous early cars I have owned or observed was a countersunk style with the slotted head and it was counter sunk into a separate receptacle ring washer. It is termed a beauty ring. The pictures I posted show the style . The consistency of the hardware across a wide number of examples lead me to conclude that it was the normal used style early on. Bob
