well this is very knew to me hellow everybody, my name is mike i am restoring a 68 gt 500kr i have a delema, i have the original 428 cj but i als have a 66 427 side oiler tunnel port with scalloped cylinders and was wondering if it is a good idea to put it in the shelby and will it clear the hood. i am know sending this if it does not work let me know what to do on tech@videotron.ca and how to get back in dont worry guys i have the original one thanks mike
from what i here a 66 427 side oiler tunnel port or not, or maybe aluminium heads from edelbrook is the ultimate engine i here the tunnel port is not to good on the street because of flow at lower rpms, and i still dont know if the hood clearance is good so maybe i will go for aluminium i also think the cj is a cheaper and less durable engine because of the oiling system would the 427 give my shelby better value thanks for any proffesionel advice Mike
Your car would have the most value with the original parts installed. Modifying a car like GT500KR is not a good idea. Having said that it's your car and you can do what ever you like. The 427 is the same physical size as a CJ, so it will fit, unless you plan on running a high rise manifold. Cobra Jet are very durable engines. If not they would not have used them extensively for drag racing in the 1960s to present.
First of all I would not say there are any serious problems with the CJs oiling system. They actually are quite reliable. If you are concerned about best value, the original engine will maintain best value, hands down. If you just want performance put the CJ in safe storage, sell the sideoiler and use the money to buy a new stroker that can crank out 700 HP.
Re: side oiler sqare cylinders hi everyone is it all 427 side oilers that have the scalloped (squaired) cylinders. does anyone know of a place that has the complet wiring harness for the KR i really mean complete. and thanks for the comments, so what is a stroker at 700 hp, that i think i can buy anywhere comparable to a vintage 427 side oiler tunnel port that is pretty rare wont it sound better just to have it keep it up boys mike
